Location: Works in normal surgical environment. Travel to other CVP locations may be necessary to fulfill essential duties and responsibilities of the job. Thus, those needing to travel for work must have access to dependable transportation, and driving record must meet company liability carrier standards.

Exposure: This position will require the person to work various hours as the surgery center is open from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Position may be exposed to blood or bodily fluids. May also be exposed to various cleaning supplies.

Equipment: Blood pressure cuff, Easylyte machine, hemoglobin machine, Accucheck monitor, oxygen tanks, computer, copier, telephone, fax machine, and coffee machine. Other equipment may be used as needed. Must be able to work with precise tools and equipment; must have dexterity to use these items correctly and safely. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities:

• Assisting in anticipating surgeon’s needs with surgical procedures by having appropriate supplies and instruments on hand
• Collaborating with circulation RN, surgeon, and surgeon’s assistant for any added needs for the procedure
• The Surgical Technician will properly handle instrumentation following procedures.
• Medication administration will be completed
• Demonstrating clinical expertise and contributes to the advancement of professional practices by communicating current research and trends related to a specialty
• Coordinating, developing, implementing, and evaluating specialty education programs in collaboration with clinical nurse educator, OR Manager, and or Director to meet the needs of the perioperative staff

The Sterile Services team plays a vital role in ensuring that medical and other needed equipment is readily available to units throughout our facilities. This department cleans, prepared, assembles, sterilizes, distributes, and ensures the quality of all surgical instruments and medical equipment so that our physicians and staff can effectively carry out their work in caring for Hawai'i's people.

As the Surgical Instrument Processing Aide, you will be responsible for cleaning, preparing, assembling, sterilizing, distributing and ensuring the quality of all surgical instruments and specific medical equipment. You will also inventory and replenish medical supplies via various distribution systems. We are looking for someone with outstanding patient care and communication skills, a strong sense of surgical procedure and protocol and a commitment to creating a healthier Hawai'i.
