Will ultimately be responsible for supporting Department Managers and their teams by:

• Managing clients and undertaking business development activities,
• Preparation of survey proposals and contracts,
• Representing ESP and client(s) in public settings.

Responsibilities:

• The Survey Director will have responsible charge of all aspects of a surveying and geomatics group (field and office) by providing training, mentoring, technical and administrative guidance, and oversight.
• Initiate and maintain contact with key personnel and officials of organizations and companies.
• Manage client expectations regarding project timelines, costs, and updates.
• Administer contracts and manage projects, interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate assignments.
• Assist Project Managers with workforce planning, monthly billing, and final review of completed reports and maps.
• Manage the practice to achieve expected profitability and growth.

Qualifications:

• Licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor (SC PLS) required. NC PLS preferred.
• Bachelor’ s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or related field preferred.
• Progressive experience in surveying management, specifically supporting land development survey projects.
• Experience supporting DOT and/or utility survey projects preferred.
• Strong self-motivational and organizational skills with the ability to lead, motivate and direct a team of office and field personnel.
• Experience with survey computations and platting using Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and ArcGIS, as well as field experience with Trimble Survey field equipment.
• Thorough working knowledge of GPS.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, and Google Earth a plus.
• Candidate must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’ s driving (MVR) policy.

Purpose

Responsible for the surveying function of assigned business unit.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction

* Serve as technical advisor by providing senior level input and evaluation on projects.
* Provide mentorship through counsel, guidance, and knowledge to junior staff.

At the Operational and Company Level

* Assist with the marketing of the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients.
* Coordinate with other internal departments to meet project requirements.

Do the Work

* Meet with prospective clients, prepare proposals and establish budgets and schedules.
* Maintain close liaison with clients to resolve all project questions, such as, but not limited to, technical requirements, completion requirements and billing inquiries.
* Oversee all surveying activities, including review of all project changes, pending or anticipated alterations to the contract, additional work requests, and all other factors, which may significantly affect staffing requirements or budget.
* Supervise work of all survey project personnel to ensure it meets the highest professional standards.
* Coordinate with other internal departments to meet project requirements.
* Define the scope of multiple, complex projects and develop plan to accomplish land survey projects. Monitor progress toward deliverable schedules.
* Compile project status reports.
* Review job cost sheets/prepare monthly billings. Ensure assigned projects stay within budget allocation.
* Collect outstanding monies due from assigned clients.
* Participate in and formulate marketing presentations and attend marketing meetings.
* Secure repeat business from existing clients and identifying new clients.
* Supervise the work of Project Managers when needed.

Minimum Requirements

* Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying or related field. (preferred)
* Professional Land Surveying registration.
* Minimum of 10 years land surveying or related land development experience to include a minimum of two years project management experience.
* Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Carlson principles.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and project teams.
* Thorough understanding of financial principles.
* Excellent organization and communication skills.
* Must be licensed surveyor in relevant state.
* Experience managing a Survey Department is preferred.
* Strong Survey Business Acumen - Prepare Proposals, RFP responses, Desire to pursue Business Development - Survey Accounting - Includes billing, project reports and collections.
* Strong Local Jurisdictional Knowledge for Plat preparation and approval.
