HDR is seeking a highly motivated Senior Project Manager to support HDR's Freight Rail Market Sector. This position will provide project management and technical services to freight rail and public agency clients in a thriving region. Specifically, this individual will work to pursue, manage, and deliver projects and respond to client needs related to rail projects. This position requires strong management skills and the ability to work with different facets of freight rail and public agency staff and capital projects. The ideal candidate will have broad experience working with freight railroads and public agencies, preferably in CA & the Western US. The successful candidate must demonstrate knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local standards and requirements associated with railway projects, design, operations, and maintenance and an understanding of project delivery processes for various phases of project development such as planning, conceptual design and feasibility, environmental documentation, preparation of Plans, Specifications, and Estimate (PS&E), and providing Design Support During Construction (DSDC) and Construction Management (CM). The ideal candidate will also act as a seller-doer project manager that leads project pursuits and helps grow market share, through cooperation with the Freight Rail Market Sector Leader and the business development and marketing team. As a Site Civil Engineer in this role, you will be involved and directly impact the following project types: * Department of defense projects for various agencies (USACE, Air Force, Space Force, Navy). * Technology projects in the field of manufacturing along with data centers. * Solid waste and wastewater facility improvements. * Solar, battery storage and substation projects. We'll count on you to: * Lead or assist with preparation of construction documents * Work with junior, mid-level, and senior engineers of various disciplines to complete engineering assignments. * Develop unique solutions to solve problems encountered during design. * Develop and work within budget and schedule. * Prepare plan drawings, technical specifications, design documentation reports, bid quantities, and construction cost estimates. * Modify plan drawings and coordinate with AutoCAD Drafters and Civil3D Designers. Will be required to prepare designs Civil3D. * Mentor junior staff. * Perform site visits to confirm field conditions. * Perform engineering assignments that require critical thinking and creativity to address unique elements that have limited or no specific code-based guidance. * Perform other duties as needed. The Southwest Regional Business Class (BC) Lead for Dams, Levees and Civil Works (DLCW) is responsible for the direction, coordination and quality of work for the dam, levee, civil works and flood risk management projects in the Southwest operating region of HDR. The duties of the position are to coordinate, facilitate and provide risk management for large-scale multi-discipline and multi-benefit projects with a high degree of technical complexity. The position will build and maintain client and area business class relationships and participate in project development and contract document preparation. The person will mentor mid- and junior-level staff across a variety of disciplines to facilitate growth and quality project delivery in the region. The position will participate in and provide oversight to a variety of project types, including the following: planning, design, inspection and construction management of interior drainage and riverine flood risk management projects; dams and reservoirs; ecosystem restoration; drainage; and general site civil of major water management infrastructure. The SW Regional BC Lead will coordinate, on a regional basis, projects with inter-related disciplines such as hydrology, hydraulics, structural, geology, geotechnical, civil, mechanical, CADD and GIS. The position will also require coordination with HDR's other regional and corporate business class technical leads (BC Practice Leads, etc.) and advisors. The position will also be expected to reinforce the Quality Management Program (QMP) and participate in staff training, as needed. As a SW Regional BC Lead, you will participate in the corporate management of the DLCWs program. Work assignments may include technical and quality reviews of projects outside of your geographic area. HDR utilizes a robust workshare program, and it is common and expected that work is shared across the HDR network between our operational areas. You will be coordinating with regional operations management as well as corporate business class leadership. As requested by the DLCWs BC Director, you may be requested to review work scopes or work products to make sure they include appropriate limitations and assumptions. The position may also be required to work with HDR legal, project managers, business group managers and area managers in reviewing go/no go decisions, SOWs, contracts, and project pricing. Preferred Qualifications * Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand * MS in civil, environmental or water resources engineering is preferred * Fifteen (15) years related experience. * Experience as a task lead and/or project manager in a consulting business is preferred * Applicants must be self-starters that are highly motivated and team oriented * Excellent problem-solving and communication skills and the ability to assimilate data and put into a big picture context are essential. * Applicants must have extensive experience designing and directing large complex multi-discipline projects. * Experience with engineering during construction or construction administration experience for dam and levee projects. * Strong technical writing abilities, solid engineering background, and effective presentation skills are necessary for this position Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field * 10 years experience in related field * Maintains a professional or Engineering registration and has related technical experience * Experienced in development and management of diverse teams * Works cooperatively with other business class regional directors, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts * Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values * An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must What We Believe HDR is our company.
