The Automation Specialist is a member of the team that is responsible for providing support through the daily operations of the Targa Pipeline Gas Plant Automation HMI/PLC hardware/software systems and related process control systems that ensure reliable gas plant operations. This position will be focused on Targa's Permian area of operation.
JOB FUNCTIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Provide daily operational support for Plant Automation HMI\PLC systems.
* Work closely with Engineering, and Operations to ensure the Gas Plant Automation HMI\PLC Systems are being developed to established standards.
* Implement modification based on control narrative and C&E information.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

* Inspect signage (Personal Protective Equipment requirements, H2S warnings, emergency numbers posted, confined space, electrical boxes labeled properly, machinery starts automatically signs, storage containers marked, etc.).
* Inspect all portable and stationary ladders, steps, and stairs to look for obvious damage, ensure all scaffold has been inspected and appears to be safe (remove from service if deemed unsafe).

* Check to ensure any block valves under PSVs are locked or sealed open.
* Ensure all out of service equipment is marked as such.
* Look for electrical grounds to be properly installed on equipment as needed and in good condition (good connections, cracked or missing insulation).

* Responsible for the Safety and well-being of Maintenance employees, leading by example in all aspects of the job and ensuring work is performed safely and accurately.

Technical Responsibilities:
* Responsible for the oversight of troubleshooting, predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance on Caterpillar, Waukesha and White Superior natural gas engines, Dresser- Rand and Ariel natural gas compressors and all related equipment.
* Oversee the diagnosis of routine and non-routine equipment malfunctions by observing operation, listening, and using diagnostic equipment to locate causes of trouble.
* Establish and maintain preventative and predictive maintenance programs in Maximo to ensure PMs are done in a timely manner.
* Audit related work permits and address and provide feedback on findings to address any audit discrepancies.
* Oversee contract crews as needed and ensure all necessary and proper approvals are received through appropriate channels i.e., ISNetworld.
* Develop long-term reliability improvement solutions based on Maintenance KPI's.
* Schedule and execute mock drills.
* Support and use Maximo system to improve equipment reliability for better run time.

Safety Responsibilities:
* Be a strong ambassador for the use of Stop Work Authority
* Conduct field reviews, observing ongoing work and reviewing live permits including inspecting tasks requiring Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) to ensure locks and tags are properly attached and all equipment is at a "zero energy state."
* Provide feedback after observations, taking time to stop and address unsafe acts or conditions.
* Attend PSM audits, incident investigations and PHA revalidations offering field experience to ensure action items are correct and closable.
* Follow up on CPA/PSM/RMP Action Items to ensure they are closed before due dates.
* Conduct Stop Work drills by randomly shutting down work for a brief period of time and auditing permits and work being performed.
* Issue Confined Space and Critical Lift permits as needed.
* Inspect perimeter fencing and gates to ensure areas are properly secured.
* Ensure gas cylinders are secured and labeled properly.
* Ensure extension cords are being used as temporary wiring and not presenting an additional hazard (trip hazard, ground removed, damaged insulation on wiring, etc.)
* Fire extinguisher checks (check for monthly and annual inspections, replace missing or spent units, seals in place, and extinguisher in place where needed).
* Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) inspections where applicable, (bottles with proper pressure, masks in a sealed bag, hoses in good shape).
* Safety shower inspections (showers and eye washes flow properly, no leaks, caps on eye washes, valves open easily, no tripping hazards in the path).
* Hoist inspections (beams marked for proper weight, hoist rated less than or equal to hoist beams, inspections performed annually, hook safety latches working).
* Inspect signage (Personal Protective Equipment requirements, H2S warnings, emergency numbers posted, confined space, electrical boxes labeled properly, machinery automatically starts signs, storage containers marked, etc.).
* Inspect all portable and stationary ladders, steps, and stairs to look for obvious damage, ensure all scaffold has been inspected and appears to be safe (remove from service if deemed unsafe).
* Ensure all electrical connections and conduit are sealed.
* Check to ensure any block valves under PSVs are locked or sealed open.
* Ensure equipment guards are in place, bolted down properly and are in good condition.
* Ensure all out of service equipment is marked as such.
* Ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS') are in place and up to date for all chemicals in that area (ensure Management of Changes (MOCs) are written for new chemicals being introduced to the work area).
* Inspect all secondary containments for condition and to see that drain valves are plugged.
* Look for electrical grounds to be professionally installed on equipment as needed and in good condition (good connections, cracked or missing insulation).
Environmental Responsibilities:
* Ensure prompt reporting of any "out of compliance" condition or environmental concerns at facilities to environmental specialist.
* Ensure proper/open communication between Operations personnel and Environmental.
* Collaborate with environmental personnel to ensure all permit conditions are monitored and help create ways of tracking compliance tasks efficiently and accurately.
* Ensure all emissions inventory requirements are tracked at the direction of the Environmental Specialist.
* Review flaring events for accuracy in volumes, times, and descriptions.
* Review blowdown logs for accuracy.
* Communicate facility changes to Environmental Specialist including, but not limited to, tank additions, process changes, equipment changes, and changes in gas composition, as well as any upcoming outages to ensure proper reporting by Environmental Specialists. Always communicate ahead of time on engine exchanges.
* Ensure waste is being handled properly with assistance from Environmental Specialists.
* Address housekeeping issues as they occur (i.e., remediate small leaks, etc.).
* Ensure that all AVO's are conducted, tracked and paperwork available as applicable.
* Review Spill, Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plan and ensure monthly inspections and containment drainage records are conducted and submitted as applicable.
* Assist with incident investigations and regulatory communications.
* Review air permit applications for accuracy (tank list, engine lists, etc.).
* Review Deviation Reports.
* Ensure all records and blowdowns are entered into Maximo or CTS as applicable.
* Review assigned CTS tasks and ensured the data is available before closing the task.
* Keep all records in an accessible location.
* Ensure engine hours are accurately reported including emergency engines and gas-powered air compressors.
* Ensure control devices are not bypassed including unplugging of NOx sensors on engines.
* Look for visible signs of leaks or seals in need of repair (check for or create Maximo for work orders for repairs).
* Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
* Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent.
* Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and/or training is preferred.
* Valid driver license required.
