No company has ever achieved perfection. Even top companies in different industries have areas for improvement. Common areas for improvement are internal processes, manpower development, and production efficiency. Often, management teams are in charge of identifying and diagnosing problem areas. However, they may tap other members of the group to come up with solutions. Other times, they even get the services of technical solutions architects. Technical solutions architects provide companies with ways to address the challenges that the company faces.

They are in charge of designing possible solutions to the problems. While they do not have the final say on which solution to implement, they may convince the management team to go about the best course of action. Ultimately, technical solutions architects are mandated to find permanent solutions to challenges.

If you deem yourself a problem solver, this would be good for you. Just make sure that you have the communication skills and the industry experience to build a great career in this.

What general advice would you give to a technical solutions architect?

Christy Graves

Professor/Program Manager, Seminole State College of Florida

I would advise the graduate to learn from everyone they work with within the workplace environment. Even though a degree in architectural engineering technology is valuable, it's impossible to learn everything you need to know to be successful in the industry by taking classes in school and earning a degree. Do not be afraid to ask others for help when you aren't sure about the task you've been assigned to do. In addition, keep up with new technology. Remember, learning should be a lifetime pursuit. It shouldn't end with earning a degree.
