Transportation services representative job description

Work Schedule: Full time - 80 Biweekly Hours

Under general supervision, works with a team transporting pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients, to and from various areas of the Hospital to include patient rooms, diagnostics areas, surgery and admitting. Maintains communication via with the dispatcher via two-way radio, to receive transport and other requests. Documents transport activities and maintains cleanliness and order of various transportation related equipment such as gurneys and wheelchairs.
**Required qualifications:**

+ Healthcare provider level BLS.

Transports patients, supplies, equipment, medication, medical charts, specimens, blood products, flowers, name plates, paper (i.e., OR schedules, requisitions, etc.) in a timely manner

Roles & Responsibilities:

Sorts and delivers inter-office/incoming mail and packages accurately and in a timely manner
Arrives on unit with appropriate mode of patient transportation (including oxygen, if necessary)
Introduces patient to self and destination. Confirms identity of patient with ID band
Assists Care Givers in moving patient on and off different modes of transport
Ensures patient's chart accompanies the patient to their designated area
Ensures patients are appropriately dressed/covered for transportation
Utilizes designated elevators to transport patients in a timely manner
Follows proper Patient Tracking procedures (logging in & out, going to in-progress, completions and logging delays
Redistributes rolling stock (i.e., wheelchairs, stretchers)
Responds to codes for transport needs
Ensures equipment used for transportation is safe, clean and easily accessible
Provides elevator operator services and audiovisual support
Ensures that equipment is positioned and locked when stationary
Ensures that side rails remain in “up” position, as indicated
Ensures that needed bedside articles are within patients reach
Notifies appropriate staff of patient status (i.e., return to floor, pick-up, and need for assistance). Makes sure destination treatment area knows of cancellations for patients that transporter is assigned for
Practices effective and respectful communication and collaboration with other health care members

Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent
Previous work experience in hospital setting preferred

The Materials Transporter is responsible for transporting materials and equipment from Materials Management to user departments throughout the entire hospital.

Responsibilities

* Delivers non-stock receipts from receiving dock staging area for designated route as assigned; combines routes and customer orders from staging areas of warehouse and Central Distribution; assures packing slips are attached to items; delivers orders, obtains proper signatures, and notes exceptions and returns.
* Utilizes handheld device to enter delivery transactions in delivery log; reports exceptions to Materials Management Coordinator and/or Central Distribution Manager.
* Assists receivers in unloading trucks; checking in packages by comparing packing slip with product; attach computer generated packing slips to packages; places packages in the correct routes for delivery.
* Hand load rewrap or stack freight as necessary.
* Transports restock bulk inventory continuously from receiving dock or warehouse to breakdown area; moves inventory to warehouse stock locations via pallet jack, or cart; separates inventory cases into units of issue and stages in appropriate receptacle or vehicle.
* Transports dry ice to research lab locations and fill ice chests.
* Responds to emergency and rush deliveries as assigned and documents transaction.
* Maintains files and documentation in department.
* Performs daily housekeeping duties, established by department policy.

Qualifications

Education: High School graduate or equivalent.

Skills:

Ability to understand general written and verbal instructions

Effective communication skills to interact with customers in a clear and polite manner.

The Materials Transporter position covers the Central Distribution section of Materials Management 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 day per year. Overtime work is required.

Experience: Previous experience desirable.

Minimum Physical Requirements:

Lifting objects weighing up to 150 pounds - 20% - frequently

Carrying objects weighing up to 75 pounds - 20% - frequently

Pushing and pulling loads weighing up to 500 pounds - 10% - occasionally

Walking as much as 5 miles each shift - (every day) - constantly

Standing, sitting, climbing, balancing, kneeling and reaching - 40% - constantly

Finger dexterity in keying orders while receiving/delivering- 10% - frequently

Talking, hearing and seeing - (all the time) ? constantly
