Heat Treat Engineer (NTN Driveshaft/ Columbus Indiana)" - 82519J Description NTN Driveshaft Inc., a world leader in constant velocity technology for the automotive industry, is currently seeking a qualified Manufacturing Engineer specializing in Induction Heat Treat for our Columbus Indiana operation. NTN currently has 1800 employees working in our Columbus operation and customer demand for our product is growing rapidly. NTN Driveshaft manufactures Constant Velocity Joints (CVJs) for all of the major automotive companies. These customers include Honda, Ford, Toyota, GM, Chrysler and most other automotive OEMs.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Develop processes on existing and new automated manufacturing equipment.
Setup the sequence of the machine operations, and optimize the total time required to process a CVJ component.
Production support of equipment is necessary to optimize up time of equipment and prevent future breakdowns.
Launch new lines and assist in the transfer to production.
Oversee line rebuilds and replacements.
Design tooling and new equipment.
Develop new products on existing equipment; complete development reports.
Lead improvement teams on cycle time reduction, planned maintenance and heavy maintenance.

Qualified candidates should possess the following:

BS Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree
Extensive mechanical ability with basic electrical ability
Project management
Lean manufacturing
Strong written and oral communication skills

Work day is split between the air conditioned manufacturing floor and the office. Candidate should be able to sit, stand, stoop or walk for extended periods of time and be able to lift 40 pounds.

Major Responsibilities:

+ Responsibilities include managing the day to day activities of the Heat Treat/Metallurgical Lab department.

+ Validating current heat treat processes, and driving to root cause any quality issues resulting from the heat treat process

+ Ensure all testing and analysis is performed according to production requirements in order to meet customer shipping requirements.

+ Assist with the maintenance of the Nadcap accreditation for the Heat Treat/metallurgical processes in the Monticello facility (creation and maintenance of applicable procedures and forms)

+ Strong problem solving skills with experience in the 5-Why and 8D methodology process. (team member for any non-conformances related to the chemical processes)

+ Demonstrated experience implementing continuous improvement activities

+ Apply and sustain 5S lean manufacturing work practices in work area(s) to maintain safe work environment.

+ Be a fully contributing team member of the Monticello Team and be part of the continuous improvement culture.

+ Work closely with Quality group to improve heat treat process in order to increase yields

+ Participate in process improvements in any area of the facility.

+ Oversee Heat Treat processes in accordance with the NADCAP and AS9100 requirements.

+ Ensure Heat Treat policies & procedures, documentation, and practices are in place per industry standards

+ Issue and revise standard policies and operating procedures, work instructions and forms in accordance of the applicable standards (NADCAP)

+ Prepare department for Heat Treat industry audits (NADCAP) that sustain NADCAP Heat Treat accreditation

+ Provide guidance on nonconforming product disposition for heat treat process related rejections based on customer and NADCAP requirements;

+ Conduct root cause analysis and take appropriate corrective and preventive actions to ensure closure of findings from all internal or external audits on processes.

+ Ensure correct thermal processes are applied according to mechanical properties requirements, work instructions and/or customer specification requirements.

+ Program furnaces at the correct operating temperatures, times, speeds, and at any other criteria according to specification documentation.

Qualifications

Required Education / Experience / Skills:

+ This position requires the application to be a US Person with an US permanent residence. A US Person a US Citizen or Green Card holder

+ Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, preferably Materials Science.

+ At least five years of heat treat experience in a manufacturing environment

+ Previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred

+ Previous experience with case carburization

+ Familiarity and experience conducting destructive

+ Ability to work from drawings and specifications.

+ Ability to follow shop practices and inspection/testing requirements.

+ Experience with Vacuum Furnaces, Carburizing, and Through Hard preferred .

+ 3 years. Green belt in Lean Six Sigma within 3 years.

Travel: As needed due to customer issues

Operating power tools and equipment as directed. The expected work schedule is 11:00 pm - 7:00 am Monday through Friday.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Perform all duties of Inspector, Machine Operator 2 and Laborer positions as required.
• Operate material handling equipment
• Performs inventory counts
• Assist in loading of railroad cars, trucks and trams
• Cleanup of yard, processing systems, or other areas as required.
• Assist as helper in other duties as may be assigned.
• Change treatment charges. Identify and inspect materials for conformance, inspect binders and cables, moves and store charges.
