Job Description
Responsible for performing medical history and physical pre-exam (assess vitals), as well as, non-invasive sonography exams and evaluations in accordance with the medical practice protocols and applicable regulatory requirements.
Uses ultrasound equipment to record vascular information, such as blood flow and pressure; cerebral, abdominal and peripheral circulation, and oxygen saturation.
Documents and communicates test findings to the physician(s).
Assists with non-invasive procedures in the office, before or after surgery, or during vascular procedures as needed. General and/or cardiac ultrasound procedures.
Responsibilities
Performs a basic history and physical prior to the patient's non-invasive evaluation, to ensure there is a proper indication to perform any exam.
Performs 2DECHO and Stress Echos
Performs Vascular Studies including but not limited to: Carotid Scans, Venous Scans, Abdominal Scans, Arterial Doppler's, Graft/Stent Scans, Ultrasound Guided Biopsies, Prepares results to review with physicians.
Compares evaluation to previous evaluations as necessary. Interprets the findings of each exam and is able to accurately report the findings in a preliminary report format in a timely manner upon completion of the study. Ensures that all referring providers are notified with findings for all same day emergent add-ons; notifies the referring provider with all emergent findings on all patients
Enters patient information accurately into the demographic screen on each ultrasound machine and in to the reporting software.
Performs incidental office duties as necessary to maintain the completeness of the patient record.
Documents all necessary interactions with referring providers in the patient's permanent medical record.
Acts as a liaison between patients and physicians; explains testing procedures to patient.
Meets the standards of ARDMS continuing medical education requirements. Maintains registered vascular technologist certification (RVT).
Qualifications
At least one year general ultrasound technician experience in a private Clinic or hospital setting.
RCIS Certification
Successfully passed Registry Exam to obtain RCIS credential. Must maintain ongoing education to maintain credential.
Strong background in cardiology, scrub procedures, hemodynamic monitoring therapeutics and diagnostic procedures.
Knowledge of heart anatomy, physiology, and radiographic procedures
Circulating and scrub experience preferred
Stress testing experience preferred

Produces three dimensional ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for use by Physician in diagnosis of disease and study of malfunction of organs by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Always maintains professional attitude when taking on Stats and fitting in a patient when needed.
Selects equipment for use in ultrasound setup according to specifications of examination. Completes patient questionnaires and asks pertinent questions about patient's medical history. Required to verify guest's identification for every examination.
Explains process to patient, and instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination. Selects transducer and adjusts equipment controls according to organ to be examined, depth of field, and other specifications of test. Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced. Starts equipment which produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data on a PACS system.
Photographs images of organs shown on display module to obtain permanent record of internal examination. Must be able to clearly and accurately write up cases correlating with the collected images, and be able to discuss those findings with the radiologists. Drug/Crash Cart - must be able to identify and know the uses of the items in the crash cart and possess the ability to assist the Radiologist during a drug reaction/emergency in a calm and efficient manner.
CPR - annual certification and OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen - annual update.
Must be knowledgeable in the fundamentals and comfortable in the everyday use of PAC's, Power scribe, Document Scanning and Management Pages and possess the general computer skills required to complete the tasks at hand. Must also have the ability to print films and burn CD's.
Will be responsible for the maintaining and obtaining the appropriate certifications required and continue to stay current on any and all continuing education. Responsible for registering in all areas of ultrasound performed at RMI including, but not limited to, ABD, OB/GYN, VASCULAR, and BREAST registries.

Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts per week. Every other weekend split time between Brighton/Howell locations on a day shift. Other shifts will be at the Ann Arbor location - a shift will be scheduled between 6:30a-11p.
POSITION PURPOSE
Under general supervision and according to established procedures, conducts noninvasive vascular tests in order to provide data used by physicians in diagnosis and treatment of arterial and venous disorders. In doing so, sets up equipment, gathers pertinent information from patients, explains test procedures to patients and operates equipment. Observe patients during procedures and alerts supervisor, physicians and/or nursing personnel to abnormalities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Interviews patients in order to gather and record pertinent personal and medical information, and perform physical examination of patients.
2. Obtains blood pressure, assessing peripheral pulse by (manual) palpitation and (instrument) Doppler auscultation, and inspecting color, temperature and overall integrity of limbs.
3. Explains test procedure(s) to patients and/or family members to allay fears and elicit cooperation. Instructs and/or assists patients in preparing for test procedures.
4. Determines appropriate positioning of patients and equipment in order to obtain graphic responses, and lifts and positions patients according to diagnostic procedure specified.
5. Operates specialized equipment including ocular phylethsymongraph, carotid phonoangiogram, and pulse volume recorder and impedance phlethsymograph to conduct non-invasive vascular tests.
6. Observes patients during procedures and notifies physicians and/or appropriate nursing personnel of any irregularities.
7. Mounts test graphs for physicians' review, interpretation, and evaluation.
8. Performs minor adjustments to testing equipment and notifies supervisor of serious malfunctions.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Receives requests for procedures and arranges for patient testing by ensuring all necessary supplies and equipment are available to perform requested test.
2. Maintains equipment in a clean and proper working order and replenishes supplies as necessary.
3. Performs miscellaneous clerical duties such as answering telephones, scheduling appointments, filing records, preparing bills, and so forth.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
1. Requires Associate's Degree in Medical Technology, or completion of an accredited ultrasongrapher program.
2. 6-12 months related experience is preferred.
3. Knowledge of physical sciences including anatomy and physiology as normally acquired through completion of an accredited ultrasound program or allied health program.
4. Approximately 3-6 months on the job experience necessary in order to gain competency in techniques of vascular testing and equipment operation, and to gain knowledge of patient care techniques.
3. Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with patients when allaying fears and eliciting cooperation, and to relay patient information to physicians and nursing personnel.
4. Analytical skills necessary in order to position patient to obtain best graphic responses and to recognize irregularities and notify appropriate personnel.
5. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for approximately 50% of work time when positioning patients, operating equipment, observing patient responses and recording patient information in patient charts.
6. Ability to walk and stand for approximately 50% of work time when administering tests, and to lift and position patients and equipment for approximately 10% of work time.
