SUMMARY OF JOB:
Under the direct supervision of the Ultrasound Supervisor, technologists provide high quality ultrasound examinations on various patient types for the purpose of diagnosis and/or treatment of physiologic disorders. Our department offers general, obstetrical and vascular services.
RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Formal education in a Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound program
2 years experience as a sonographer in a hospital setting
*Familiarity with GE equipment a plus
Experience in General, Obstetrical and Vascular ultrasound required
RDMS credentials or eligibility required
*must be RDMS registered within 6 months of hire
RVT credential or eligibility required
*must be RVT registered within 1 year of hire
Must be available to rotate “on call” evenings and weekends, and be available for holiday coverage
CPR certified
Basic knowledge of computers preferred

Position Summary:

Essential Functions:
+ Perform all diagnostic Ultrasound procedures through proper technique selection according to department policy and procedure. This includes providing Ultrasound services on weekends, holidays, and call as scheduled. Patient care includes care to patients in the following age groups: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
+ Receives requests, checking for special instructions from the requesting physicians; consults with Radiologists as necessary.
+ Greets patients and actively identifies patient to ensure correct patient and procedure.
+ Explains procedure to patient and family.

A Brief Overview
Under the direct supervision of the supervisor/manager and a physician in the department, who is responsible for the use and interpretation of ultrasound procedures, conducts sonographic procedures on assigned patients through the use of ultrasound diagnostic equipment. Does not supplant the physician in the sphere of decision making required to establish a diagnosis, but will assist in gathering sonographic and other medical data necessary to reach a medical diagnosis and decision. Explains examination process to the patient and instructs and assists patient throughout the procedure
Operates diagnostic ultrasound equipment, observes sound wave pattern produced, produces and processes diagnostic images and presents completed sonograms to physician.
Participates in maintaining records for research cases. Participates as needed in evaluation of new equipment for research or possible future use in department.
Performs a variety of sonographic procedures utilizing ultrasonic high frequency sound waves to detect abnormalities including masses, abscesses, and stones.
Performs appropriate infection prevention techniques including CIDEX testing, neutralization disposal. Performs proper probe handling & cleaning according to procedures if necessary
Performs basic Doppler scans, i.e.: hepatic/portal veins, hepatic art, venous Doppler studies, renal transplant art/v.
Doppler within allotted time frames; Spot check exams consistently show understanding and demonstration of proper doppler technique and documentation of doppler information, color and doppler spectral imaging, color & spectral scale setting at a velocity that demonstrates psv after flow direction and angle correction displayed appropriate to vessel
Reviews patient medical history in chart information system. Reloads prior exams for comparison. Utilizes ancillary equipment appropriately (Kinetdx, PACS - Picture Archiving and Communication systems).
Spots check exams for required views and adequate demonstration of anatomy. Completes exam within required timeframe

**Position Summary:**
The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment. This includes providing Ultrasound services on weekends, holidays, and call as scheduled. What you will do
Operates diagnostic ultrasound equipment, observes sound wave pattern produced, produces, processes, and documents diagnostic images.
Presents completed sonograms (including pathology, anatomical variants, and incidental findings) to radiologist.
Performs a variety of scans including abdomen, renal, gynecology (transabdominal and transvaginal), small parts, abdominal Doppler (including transplants), upper and lower extremity DVT, carotid, aorta, and transplants. Our department does not perform dedicated maternal-fetal medicine imaging, but candidates must possess basic knowledge of obstetrical studies.
Explains examination process to the patient and instructs and assists patient throughout the procedure.
Reviews patient medical history and relevant prior imaging in electronic medical record and imaging chart (PACS).
When necessary, spot checks exams for required views and adequate demonstration of anatomy and pathology (for example, if working with students). Completes exam within required timeframe.
Assists with ultrasound-guided procedures and supply/tray set-up.
Participates in department research cases.
Performs appropriate infection prevention techniques including the use of Trophon equipment.
Performs proper probe handling & cleaning according to manufacturer guidelines.
Ensures that ultrasound equipment & accessories are maintained and functioning. Reports problems to department leadership.
Education Qualifications

**Position Summary:**
The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment. The Sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self -motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
