Responsibilities Phlebotomist - Vascular Access Tech obtains quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods (capillary, venous, assisted line and arterial collections) and standard safety equipment from all age groups with strict adherence to regulatory requirements and collection procedures. Works at the Mayo Clinic Hospital alternating between the two hospital campuses (Rochester Methodist Campus - RMC and St. Mary's Campus - SMC) in the general patient care areas, pediatrics, the Emergency Department, the Intensive Care Units and the Operating Rooms. Responsible for accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, handling and transportation as well as accurate specimen testing using Point of Care (POC) equipment. Able to work with a variety of computer programs/systems. Must maintain patient confidentiality. Utilizes good customer relations and communication skills in performing phlebotomy, answering the phone and interacting with patients, nurses, providers and others health care professionals to ensure high customer satisfaction. Performs all additional duties as assigned by the department manager. Regulatory Requirements: Successful completion of an approved program in ultrasound technology required. Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is preferred. Must be registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). One (1) year of ultrasound experience preferred. Certification in abdomen and OB/GYN required other certifications preffered. Current BLS certification. Work Shift: Varies (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Union Position: No Department Details Summary Performs all required ultrasound and clinical evaluations at a technical level. Maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field of vascular disease and new producers, as they evolve. Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic vascular laboratory examinations. Job Description Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical pathological, and diagnostic images. Responsible for the safety, mental, and physical comfort of the patient while in the sonographer's care. Assists with the maintenance of laboratory accreditation via Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL), American College of Radiology (ACR), and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all customers (i.e. patients, co-workers, physicians, peers, etc.). Possesses a thorough knowledge and understanding of cardiac and/or vascular anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamic principles. Knows two-dimensional color flow and doppler wave form analysis. Understands age-related protocols for the various testing. Possesses excellent communication skills to work with patients and families, physicians, and other healthcare workers. This position may have access to medications for purposes of distribution to licensed personnel. May perform ultrasound procedures for our mobile outreach program as well as perform vascular screenings at various locations. This may include driving Sanford vehicles, flying by aircraft, and occasionally an overnight stay at a hotel. Qualifications Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology or two years equivalent experience is required. Registration or eligible to be registered with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) with Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) certification or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) with Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) certification. Obtain RVT or RVS within 24 months into position. Leadership may require this be obtained in less than 24 months depending on needs of the department. Department needs may shorten this time frame if applicable. When applicable, maintenance of a valid driver's license and good driving record is required. Employees are held to the Sanford category driver's license policy and medical guidelines when applicable for job duties. If working in North Dakota and performing medical imaging or radiation therapy procedures, licensure through the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (NDMIRT) Board is required.
