Performs diagnostic medical ultrasound imaging exams to assist with the diagnosis of disease and study of the malfunction of organs. Participates in CQI activities. Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations according to physician orders. Utilizes the appropriate equipment as required for the ordered exam. Provides instructions and prepares patients for ultrasound examinations. Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention. Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed. Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc. Maintains records of ultrasound images taken, archiving, and de-archiving data as required; calculates, compiles and records data from numerical readings on patients medical record and related documents. Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturers instruction. Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing ultrasound examinations including the use of equipment to minimize safety hazards. Calibrates, cleans and performs routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning; cleans and sterilizes instruments, supplies and equipment; stocks and replenish supplies as needed Documentation meets current standards and hospital policy Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population. Performs all additional duties as assigned by the department manager. Regulatory Requirements: Successful completion of an approved program in ultrasound technology required. Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is preferred. Must be registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
