Responsibilities
The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer provides diagnostic ultrasound tests for patients in the Maternal Fetal Medicine setting. The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer works independently and with other members of the healthcare team to provide comprehensive care to pregnant women.
Explains exam to patient and family prior to the commencement of the test to assure cooperation and optimum test results.
Acquires anatomical, pathological, and/or physiological data.
Records/processes sonographic data and other pertinent observations made during the procedure.
Creates a preliminary report for physician interpretation and review/signature.
Assists physician with procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling.
Recognizes equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate corrective action.
Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies.
Follows the accredited laboratory protocols for obtaining two‐dimensional images, color flow, Doppler, and m‐mode where applicable.
Rotates as needed to cover Sonographer absences.

Qualifications
Education:
Graduate of an accredited sonography program with a degree in ultrasonography or equivalent.
Maintain or be eligible for certification as an American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) in OB/GYN.
Must provide evidence of continuing education credits to fulfill accreditation requirements.
CPR certification required.

Develop and maintain a high level of skills commensurate with the standards set by the National Medical Director through continued education and interaction with other VCA UltrasoundTechnologists
Maintain equipment and manage the supply inventory to ensure continued and effective operations
Clean and maintain designated ultrasound and procedure rooms following each procedure or scan and at the end of the day to ensure smooth patient flow throughout the day
Obtain and document patient photos at several intervals throughout the treatment process
When not actively engaged with a scheduled patient, assist other staff members with their duties in the spirit of teamwork in order to maintain an effective and efficient operation
Maintain flexibility with given schedule, and in the nature of team spirit, provide support and coverage for other clinics in need of ultrasound coverage

**JOB SUMMARY**
The UltrasoundTechnologist Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Clinic, under general supervision of a Radiologist, performs routine and complex OB/GYN Sonographic Imaging procedures on ambulatory and hospitalized patients in a Physician Office or Clinic Setting specific to Maternal Fetal Medicine as requested by a physician or other licensed provider and under general supervision of a MFM Specialist Physician for assessment and diagnosis of pregnancy conditions in accordance with established protocols. This position must be able to effectively explain procedures to patients and be sure they are relaxed and at ease during the exam, and provide care to the patients while obtaining diagnostic quality images for interpretation.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE**
+ Performs high quality ultrasound procedures, according to exam protocol, in a timely manner. Maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.
+ Utilizes AIDET when communicating with patients to: identify patient service requirements, ensure correct exam is performed on the correct patient, and establish rapport with patients and others. Instructs and communicates with patients and their family regarding the test to be performed and assesses patient's ability to tolerate exam.
+ Prepares patient and area for procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into specified position and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
+ Protects patients and employees by adhering to safety requirements, infection-control, drug and radiation policies, protocols and techniques. Uses proper sterile techniques when setting up and performing invasive multimodality procedures and maintains hand hygiene requirements.
+ Maintains equipment and work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards. Works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal operational capabilities of equipment. Reports issues to management or appropriate department. Assists in maintaining supplies inventory.
+ Ensures people are safe to enter the department by screening them according to approved policies and procedures.
+ Obtains, verifies and maintains all relevant documentation such as requisition/chart, patient history, pregnancy status and shielding precautions taken, consent forms, policies and procedures, etc.
+ Maintains medical imaging records in appropriate system and according to department policies and standards for interpretation in a timely manner.

What You Will do in this Role:
Report to work station on time and as scheduled and remains at work station until relieved for lunch or end of shift.
Position patients and adjust equipment for each procedure.
Instruct patient regarding procedures.
Follow prescribed safety standards.
Maintain examination rooms.
Follow confidentiality standards.
Participate in standby for modalities assigned and scheduled. When on-call paged, a prompt call is made to the hospital to determine the study to be done. Travel time to report in for the study will be kept within twenty-five (25) minutes

Records statistics and performs daily maintenance of the ultrasound Lab and its equipment, reporting all malfunctions as appropriate.
Acts as a resource to other staff, physicians and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures and studies to optimize patient care.
Works closely with the ultrasound team to ensure quality processes and adherence to protocols. Assists with unit or organization accreditation activities as delegated.

Responsibilities
The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer provides diagnostic ultrasound tests for patients in the Maternal Fetal Medicine setting. The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer works independently and with other members of the healthcare team to provide comprehensive care to pregnant women.
Explains exam to patient and family prior to the commencement of the test to assure cooperation and optimum test results.
Acquires anatomical, pathological, and/or physiological data.
Records/processes sonographic data and other pertinent observations made during the procedure.
Creates a preliminary report for physician interpretation and review/signature.
Assists physician with procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling.
Recognizes equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate corrective action.
Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies.
Follows the accredited laboratory protocols for obtaining two‐dimensional images, color flow, Doppler, and m‐mode where applicable.
Rotates as needed to cover Sonographer absences.
Performs related and other assigned duties as directed.
Qualifications
Education:
Graduate of an accredited sonography program with a degree in ultrasonography or equivalent.
Maintain or be eligible for certification as an American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) in OB/GYN.
Must provide evidence of continuing education credits to fulfill accreditation requirements.
CPR certification required.
Fetal Echo certification ‐ required to obtain within 1 year of hire.
Experience
Minimum six months experience as an ultrasound technician working in OB/GYN and/or MFM setting preferred.
Experience Industry: Healthcare
Skills/Abilities:
Skilled in operating ultrasound equipment.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
10‐15% travel required for clinic coverage if needed.
