Utility maintenance worker job description

1. Inspect hydraulic parts and components to detect leaks, damage and wear.

2. Read hydraulic and pneumatic equipment pressure gauges to detect abnormal oil pressure.

3. Replace worn or damaged hydraulic components and install new hydraulic components on new machinery and equipment.

4. Disassemble hydraulic actuators/valves to remove and replace defective parts.

5. Perform routine maintenance.

6. Disassemble defective cylinders, valves, pumps and lines and rebuild, repair or replace components.

7. Maintain inventory of parts and supplies needed for work performed.

8. Maintain clean and orderly work area(s).

9. Assist other Maintenance Mechanics with emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment as well as installation of production machinery for a new line or process. 2

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions in and around the manufacturing plant. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.

Expected Hours of Work

Days and hours of work are regularly Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week however we do sometimes require OT during busy outage seasons ( Spring and Fall months 50-70 hrs a week).

Required Education and Experience

Basic Technical training; exposure to hydraulics, or experience in maintenance or related shop environment.

The Johnston County Public Utilities Department has an immediate opening for a Utility Maintenance Worker. Employee performs a variety of unskilled to semi-skilled work as a member of a crew engaged in the maintenance and/or repair of water and sewer lines and pumping stations. Salary based on current certifications.

Duties and Responsibilities

Position performs any and all functions necessary to operate and maintain water distribution and wastewater collection system equipment including but not limited to adjusting valves, pumps, and other equipment in the County's system. Duties also include lawn maintenance, painting, and light janitorial work.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Working knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in the installation, replacement, maintenance and repair of utility lines, pumping stations, meters, and related equipment. Working knowledge of a variety of maintenance and manual methods and tasks involved in the installation, maintenance, repair and replacement of utility lines, pumping stations, meters, and appurtenances. Working knowledge and safe operation of the use of common hand and power tools. Position requires someone physically capable of lifting up to 75 pounds. Shift work is required.

Desired Education and Experience

Graduation from high school and related experience in mechanical, plumbing, utility construction and/or maintenance, and equipment operation experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. CDL, Grades C and B Distribution and/or Grades 1 and 2 Collections certifications highly preferred.

Description

We are looking for a self-motivated, detail oriented, multi-tasker to join our Engineering department as a Groundskeeper/General maintenance utility worker! We have a very beautiful hotel and are committed to keeping it that way and the idea candidate will be responsible for making sure that happens! The Groundskeeper will be responsible for keeping the outdoor areas of the hotel clean from debris, pressure washing sidewalks, cleaning windows, mainting foliage, weeding, blowing parking lot, mulching. Candidate may also be responsible for routine maintenance of facility. If you have experience in landscaping and a strong attention to detail, you may be the perfect fit for this job.
