Museum of Science visitor services representative job description

The Operations Representative is a proactive, energetic team member critical to our commitment to providing guests with a positive and memorable experience at the Museum of Science! The Operations Representative provides welcoming guest service while conducting admission and/or operational duties in several key, high profile areas of the museum including the Exhibit Halls entry, Mugar Omni Theater, 4D Theater, Butterfly Garden, school group check in and logistics, and special exhibits.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 20,000 - 50,000 guests per week depending on the season.
  • Up to 15,000 guests per day during school vacation week / holiday periods or special exhibitions.
  • 1,000 - 3,000 school children per day during the school year.
  • Verification of 2,000 - 10,000 vaccination cards per day
  • Additional shifts may be required to accommodate peak periods such as school vacation weeks and holiday weekends.
  • This position requires dressing in accordance with specified appearance standards/dress code.


WORK SCHEDULE:

We have 3 part-time schedules open:

Friday 8:45 am - 5:15 pm and Saturday 4:15 - 10:15 pm, 13.25 hours/week

Saturday and Sunday 8:45 am - 5:15 pm, 16 hours / week

Friday 4:45 pm - 9:15 pm and Saturday 9:30 am - 5:15 pm 11.75 hours/week


REPORTS TO:

Director, Visitor Services


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Six (6) months of customer service experience.
  • Demonstrated customer service and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Proven experience juggling many tasks calmly and efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
  • Proven success working independently

STARTING SALARY:

Non-Exempt (Hourly), $15.03/hr

The Museum is not required to provide an accommodation or exemption from the vaccine requirement if doing so would pose a direct threat to others in the workplace or would create an undue hardship for the Museum.

Job Summary

Greets, directs, and provides information and assistance to patients, guests and team members. Facilitates patient visitation and serves as liaison between patients, families and team members. Provides relevant screening procedures for patients, guests and team members during periods of need as determined by Prisma Health.

Accountabilities

* Provide appropriate assistance to patients.

(Greet patients (using AIDET) upon arrival, ensure orders and other documentation are accurate, check patients in using appropriate departmental procedures and issue beepers when appropriate. Secure wheelchair if needed and direct patients to appropriate location, personally escorting them if at all possible).
* Facilitate patient visitation.

Access patient location information in GE Centricity and/or Peri-Op computerized patient information systems and provide directional assistance; personally escorts visitors and family members to appropriate patient care area whenever possible. Update visitation and/or family logs as appropriate. Explain visitation policy and issue visitor badges if appropriate. Contact Nursing when family wishes to visit in Critical Care areas or Recovery; if visitation is not possible at that time, try to determine when visitation my be allowed and inform family. Contact other healthcare facilities if the requested patient is not a current Prisma Health patient. Maintain patient privacy and abide by visitation requests/restrictions.
* Provide general assistance to family members and visitors.

Greet guests (using AIDET) upon their approach to desk/area and offer appropriate assistance with information, directions, maps, written materials, etc. Escort guests and assist with wheelchairs as appropriate. Assist lost individuals in hallways. Orient family members to waiting rooms, explain patient tracking systems and visitation guidelines, and provide comfort items to families and visitors. Assist in keeping waiting areas clean and help visitors to find alternative waiting accommodations when overcrowding occurs.
* Facilitate communication between patients, family members, visitors and staff.

Serve as a liaison between patients, staff and family. Issue beepers as appropriate and/or maintain cell phone numbers to assist in communication. Check with Nursing to ensure visit is appropriate after hours or at all times in surgery and in Critical Care areas. Assist relatives whenever possible in contacting the physician or communicating with nursing, or other hospital personnel. Assist patients and staff members in locating family members. Request language and other special needs interpreters as appropriate. Facilitate contact with Pastoral Care, Social Services, Medicaid office, etc. Notify appropriate manager when problem occurs or concern arises.
* Provide appropriate assistance to staff members.

Assist with patient check-in and patient tracking procedures. Help with departmental clerical tasks and errands as appropriate. Secure wheelchairs and other equipment as necessary. Assist in maintaining clean, quiet surroundings
* Perform tasks and responsibilities associated with particular work station as appropriate.

Supervisory/Management Responsibility

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.
