Essential Functions + Responsibilities
• Resolve both technical and design problems and work collaboratively on all aspects of project execution
• Work independently as well as effectively communicate and collaborate with City and McAdams staff methodology and approach for projects.
• Designers are expected to complete (design complete/ready for construction) multiple minor projects per year. This requires flexibility and multitasking of multiple projects at one time.
• Compose comprehensive technical reports related to existing conditions analysis and proposed recommendations.
• Design and produce civil engineering construction documents (site plans, utility plan/profile, design reports, specifications)
• Designers shall be proficient with the following applications and able to perform engineering evaluation, calculations, reports, in support of project design: AutoCAD Civil 3D and embedded hydrology and hydraulics software, ArcGIS, StormCAD, FlowMaster, HY8, CulvertMaster, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, AdobePro, Excel, and other various public applications.
• Create exhibits using GIS based on existing & proposed land use, drainage area information.
• Be able to convey complex engineering topics to property owners, and various roles in an effective manner.
• Experience in the design and preparation of construction plans for storm drainage projects.
• Delineate watersheds and prepare time of concentration calculations.
• Gutter spread calculations and analysis.
• Pipe video assessment and analysis.
• Understanding of SCS and Rational methods.
• Design of rip rap aprons.
• Communicate to the public regarding project specific information representing City Storm Water Services.
• Familiar with water quality buffers and environmental permitting processes.
• Understanding of local and FEMA flood requirements
• Storm drainage and culvert design
• Stormwater control measure design
• Site grading, earthworks, and sediment/erosion control design and permitting
• Coordination with contractors, utility representatives, and owners
• Coordination with local and third-party utility providers regarding impacts associated with projects
• Work in accordance with McAdams and City of Charlotte standards with project team from concept phase through construction administration for a variety of projects

Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate to fill a full time Water Resources Engineer position in the St Louis, MO office. Other Hanson locations will be considered depending on the qualifications of the candidate.

Position Profile

This position is an entry-level position geared for professional learning, growth, and increasing responsibility for master planning, permitting, design, and construction-related services for water resources projects for roadway, railroad, aviation, and industrial projects.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling on a variety of projects ranging from simple roadways and site developments to large scale urban flood control projects. Plan, design and procure permitting for levees, dams, reservoirs, bridges and culverts. Assist in project activities such as storm water management, field inspections, floodplain modeling, scour analysis, erosion protection, stream restoration, unsteady flow modeling, 2-D modeling, floodway construction permitting, FEMA permitting and preparation of technical reports. Collaborate with Senior Technical staff Prepare calculations, quantity take-offs, and opinions of probable construction costs Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Training:

* A bachelor's degree in the engineering field is required. Additional course work in water resources is desirable.
* E.I.T. is desirable.
* Master's degree is desirable.

Technical Skills:

* Proficient with the following software programs is desirable: HEC-RAS (1D & 2D), HEC-HMS, TR-55, HY8, XP-SWMM, EPA-SWMM, Flo-2D, SMS, SRH-2D, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and ArcGIS

Soft Skills:

* The candidate must be able to work as a team member and independently, have the desire to learn new skills, be self-motivated, and possess excellent interpersonal communication skills

Working at Hanson:

* Must be able to collaborate remotely with colleagues in other offices.
* Candidate must be willing to accept out-of-town travel assignments and to work overtime to meet project demands.
* Must possess a valid driver's license

General Assignment: Work on project teams, reporting to project manager, on design and construction engineering projects, including: development; piped utilities, storm and sanitary sewers and water mains; storm water detention facilities; parking lots; and streets, highways and intersections. Perform investigations, analysis and design. Prepare calculations, development of details and technical reports and construction plans, including specifications and estimates. Interpret plans for design intent. Evaluate construction for compliance with contract documents and interact with testing and engineering support personnel. Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, and material stress factors to determine design specifications. Provide technical advice to managers regarding design, construction, and program modifications. Test materials to determine the adequacy and strength of foundations, concrete, asphalt, and steel. Analyze surveying to lay out installations and establish reference points, grades, and elevations to guide construction. Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, and labor to determine project feasibility.

Qualifications: Requires Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent, 2 years' experience in job offered and verifiable references.
