Job Class Description
The purpose of this class is to inspect, secure, and/or inventory assigned property and provide clerical and administrative support. This class is responsible for collection, inspection and distribution of mail. This class works within a general guideline of work to be performed under general supervision.
Position Duties
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
* Processes inmate's personal property,filing paperwork, delivering allowed items to inmate, packing property when inmate goes to DOC and releasing property to family; enters information into computer database.
* Processes Department mail, locating cell locations in database, opening and inspecting inmate mail and packages, and distributing mail.
* Responsible for daily pickup of postal mail from the Post Office.
* Answers inmate request and grievance forms regarding mail and/or other personal property.
* Processes new inventory into stock for area of assignment and maintains same.
* Prepares and maintains work orders.
* Operates Risograph for reproducing print materials.
* Assists supervisor with such tasks as writing/typing and errands.
* Performs routine office tasks such as record keeping, typing, filing, faxing, telephoning and photocopying.
* Prepares routine and recurring reports and special reports as required.
* Regular, dependable and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.
Minimum Qualifications
* Requires High School Diploma or equivalent
* Six (6) months experience with handling of inventory of items preferred.
* Basic computer knowledge and office skills.
* Requires Valid Florida Driver's License (must be maintained for duration of employment)
Additional Information
Work is performed in an office environment in a Jail facility. Employees will have inmate contact during the course of the normal work day.
Work is completed in twelve (12) hour shifts; employees must be able to work any shift; days/nights/midnights, weekends and holidays. Shifts are (6:00AM - 6:00PM) or (6:00PM to 6:00AM) Current shift available is (6:00PM - 6:00AM)
Employees are subjected to extended work days and hours to meet operational needs or in the event of an emergency event.
Requires pre-employment medical certification, successful completion of a criminal background investigation including polygraph and psychological evaluation. Requires drug test prior to assuming position and if employed, will be subject to return to duty, post-accident and/or random and reasonable suspicion drug tests while employed.
During an emergency, the Sheriff will determine who is considered an emergency responder and whose work is necessary to maintain the operation of law enforcement and correctional facilities. This determination is subject to change based on staffing and the operational needs of the agency.
