Due to current COVID-19 circumstances, tutors in the role will work with very small groups of students for the time being. All staff and students will wear masks at all times. In the event that the pandemic eases up, we would anticipate the number of students whom we serve to increase.
Reports to: Fusion Program Coordinator
Fusion Assistant Program Coordinator
Duration: late September – end of May
Monday – Thursday, 3:15 PM – 7:15 PM
Job Functions:
1. Arrive on time and prepared to lead daily instruction.
2. Understand and enthusiastically instruct participating students in the academic curriculum and activities.
a. Assist students with homework completion
b. Identify skills students may struggle with and utilize resources to reinforce those skills
3. Supervise meals and any other time designated for socializing.
a. Potential need for heating up student meals in classroom microwave
b. Ensure trash is properly disposed of every day
4. Ensure the safety and well-being of all students throughout the duration of the program.
5. Abide by all Center of Life policies and procedures.
6. Be a positive role model for all students throughout the duration of programming, including all enrichment activities.
7. Lead by example by displaying a positive, enthusiastic, kind, caring, and supportive attitude and behavior at all times towards all children, parents, and peers.
8. Be aware of each child’s diverse needs.
9. Collaborate with your co-worker(s) to ensure that the learning environment of the room is as impactful to the students as possible.
10. Participate in all enrichment activities when attending them with the students
11. Display a positive and enthusiastic conduct towards the delivery of Fusion while also encouraging children to participate in all activities.
12. Build strong, healthy relationships with children that inspire academic performance and community connectedness.
13. Collaborate with all community enrichment partners (such as Reading is Fundamental) to manage student behavior and maintain position as a student role model.
14. Contribute to verbal and written evaluations and communication as requested.
15. Participate enthusiastically in all Center of Life and Fusion meetings.
16. Participate as a member of the Center of Life staff to deliver and supervise special events or Fusion-associated functions.
17. Participate with all staff in maintaining the cleanliness and order of the teaching space.
Qualifications:
1. Must be of 18 years of age or older
2. Must have a minimum of two years of experience in the realm of formal education (e.g. within a classroom or other formal youth development/teaching/education arena)
3. Must obtain State, Child Abuse, and FBI Fingerprint, and National Sex Offender Registry clearances as well as provide proof of Mandated Reporter Training
4. Must possess the ability to effectively communicate with children ages 4-12 while also providing necessary instruction to students
5. Must be able to provide adequate help to multiple students at one time
6. Must possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of students
a. Be aware that the physical requirements of the job include being on your feet most of the shift, walking up and down numerous staircases, and potentially walking throughout the (hilly) Hazelwood neighborhood and/or supervising students at local playgrounds and outdoor spaces, weather permitting
7. Must possess knowledge and skill in academic areas, including but not limited to math and reading
8. Must be able to escort/walk students to local playgrounds while ensuring their safety
a. Must be able to make judgment call regarding numbers of external people at playgrounds (e.g. if the space is crowded upon arrival, leaving so that the kids are not exposed to extra germs)
9. Must be willing and able to follow all CDC guidelines pertaining to safety issues dealing with COVID-19.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Associate degree in Education OR a Bachelor’s degree
2. Formal teaching experience within a classroom setting OR working as a camp counselor in a role that required you to plan and write activities
3. Formal teaching and/or education training (e.g. minor in Education or college-level classes taken)
4. Behavior specialist or Counselor experience/education/etc.
Job Types: Part-time, Temporary
Pay: $18.00 per hour

Yes. Numbers of students will be limited, all people will be required to wear a mask, and spaces will be professionally sanitized weekly. COVID-19 tests may be required regularly, as well.
