Refrigeration Package Engineer
Advanced engineer job in Jacksonville, FL
The Opportunity
Join Clauger's engineering team as a Refrigeration Package Engineer, where you'll design and detail custom refrigeration skids and packaged systems for industrial cold storage and food processing facilities. We've recently secured a new key account -creating significant demand for engineered refrigeration solutions across four regional zones.
This role combines technical design expertise with hands-on project coordination. You'll work with both ammonia and freon-based systems, translating project requirements into detailed fabrication packages while coordinating with fabrication shops, quality control, and field installation teams. If you love getting into the details, seeing your designs come to life, and solving complex refrigeration challenges, this is your opportunity.
Why Clauger
Specialized Expertise: Focus on industrial ammonia and freon refrigeration systems-complex, challenging work that requires real engineering skill
Diverse Projects: Design skids for cold storage warehouses, food processing plants, blast freezers, and spiral freezer systems
Scale & Stability: 450+ employees across US and Canada, 3,000+ worldwide
partnerships and field installation capabilities
Design to Installation: See your work through from CAD to commissioning-you're not just pushing drawings
Technical Growth: Work alongside experienced refrigeration engineers and learn from complex, large-scale projects
What You'll Do
Refrigeration Package Design & Engineering
Design custom refrigeration skids and packaged systems for ammonia and freon applications
Create detailed 3D models and fabrication drawings using SolidWorks (or similar CAD software)
Size and select compressors, condensers, evaporators, vessels, and all refrigeration components
Perform refrigeration load calculations and system capacity analysis
Design piping layouts, supports, and connection details for packaged refrigeration systems
Develop P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control sequences for refrigeration packages
Ensure designs comply with IIAR, ASME, and ANSI standards for industrial refrigeration
Coordinate with electrical and controls teams
Fabrication Coordination & Quality Control
Prepare complete fabrication packages including BOMs, cut lists, welding specs, and assembly instructions
Coordinate with fabrication shops to ensure buildability and address shop drawing questions
Review shop drawings and submittal packages for accuracy and code compliance
Conduct quality inspections at fabrication shop to verify dimensional accuracy and weld quality
Coordinate pre-shipment QC checkpoints
Troubleshoot fabrication issues and provide technical support to resolve construction challenges
Scheduling & Project Coordination
Develop and maintain engineering and fabrication schedules for multiple concurrent packages
Coordinate equipment procurement lead times with project delivery schedules
Track drawing releases, RFI responses, and submittal approvals to keep projects on track
Interface with project managers, field teams, and clients regarding technical requirements
Participate in project kickoff meetings and provide technical input during planning phases
Support field installation with site visits, startup assistance, and troubleshooting as needed
Documentation & Technical Support
Create operation and maintenance manuals for refrigeration packages
Prepare as-built drawings documenting field changes and final configurations
Maintain design standards library and detail templates for common package configurations
Provide technical training to fabrication and field teams on package designs
Support warranty and service calls with technical troubleshooting and recommendations
Who Thrives Here
You have an engineer's mind and a builder's mentality-you understand that good design means thinking about how it will actually be fabricated, transported, and installed. You're meticulous about details because you know a missed dimension or wrong valve size can cost thousands in the field. You enjoy the challenge of optimizing designs for performance, cost, and manufacturability. You communicate proactively, keeping everyone in the loop so there are no surprises. You take pride in seeing your skids delivered on time, built right, and performing exactly as designed.
What Makes This Role Different
Unlike pure design roles where you hand off drawings and never look back, you'll stay engaged through fabrication, QC, and installation. You'll visit fabrication shops, solve real-world problems, and see the direct impact of your design decisions. This hands-on involvement makes you a better engineer and ensures our packages are built right the first time.
