Since the time of the ancient Greeks, Wine is the perfect fancy, fruity drink for any occasion. In fact, in the United States, wine is the second most popular alcoholic drink in the country after beer and is consumed by 34% of Americans who drink alcohol.

With that in mind, it’s no wonder there are a few highly popular brands out there offering something for everyone, regardless of taste, budget, or lifestyle. And, due to the niche nature of the drink, wine companies develop and release an average of 240 new wine brands each year.

These brands regularly change and adapt to fit the desires of their consumers all the time, and new brands emerge regularly. After all, there’s even a huge variety of wines that can fall under the same brand.

So with that in mind, what are the best-selling wine brands in the world today? To answer that, we’ve gathered a list of the top 10 best-selling wine brands in the world, based on their volume (cases) sold in 2019.

Barefoot has 17 unique blends under its brand, including Zinfandel, Shiraz, Merlot, Pinot noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Riesling, and more. These brands are highly popular around the world, being exported to Canada, Europe, and Asia.

More recently, Barefoot Wine grew by 19.2% in value in 2019. The brand also announced its launch of a wine-infused hard seltzer line in January of 2020. The new flavors include Pineapple Passion Fruit, Cherry Cranberry, Peach Nectarine, and Strawberry Guava.

This brand is rather historical, as Ernest J. Gallo and his brother founded their company right after the repeal of Prohibition. Together, they produced 177,000 gallons of wine in their first year alone.

    Parent Company: Casella Family Brands

Developed in 2000 by Casella Family Brands, Yellow Tail is a newer wine brand that has always been marketed to other countries. By 2011, it actually became the number one imported wine to the United States for a few years.

Yellow Tail also makes several different wines from the following grape varieties: Moscato, Riesling, Semillon, Sauvignon blanc, Pinot gris, Chardonnay, Pinot noir, Merlot, and more.

  5. Changyu

2019 Volume Sold: 10.7 million cases
Parent Company: Changyu Pioneer Wine Co.

Changyu is well known as China’s oldest and largest wine brand. It’s produced by Changyu Pioneer Wine Co., located in Yantai, Shandong, founded in 1892.

Zhang Bishi, an overseas Chinese diplomat, founded the brand to develop Chinese industry. He originally bought 2,000 plants from the United States, but these plants didn’t do well when transplanted. As a result, he ended up buying 640,000 more from Europe. These plants also struggled in Chinese soil, with only 20 to 30% of them surviving.

Today though, the wine thrives as a unique brand, as Zhang’s solution was to graft wild plants from northeast China to the foreign plants. This created an insect, disease, and cold-resistant vine that grew sugar-rich fruit.

    Parent Company: Constellation Brands

Established in 1966, Robert Mondavi is a fine wine brand with vineyards across Napa Valley, California. As the name suggests, the brand’s founder was Robert Mondavi.

Robert Mondavi wine is produced across three main vineyards. The original being the To Kalon Vineyard, while the newer two are Wappo Hill Vineyard and the Los Carneros Vineyard. Together, they occupy over 7,000 acres!
