What success looks like in this role:

As part of our Managed Applications Services, we provide day-to-day support for applications running in a mission-critical environment on a 24x7 basis.

We are looking for an individual to join our team that provides support and development to our Command and Control services.

In particular, this would focus on the mainframe element of the solution. The role would include providing day-to-day support for existing services as well as software enhancements as defined by our client.

The main technical skills that we require for this role would be experience within Application Support, ideally with strong mainframe skills such as COBOL development and tools. More specifically, knowledge of the following technologies would be required or advantageous:
COBOLAn understanding of OS2200 Unisys mainframe technology. Experience of other mainframe technologies will be considered DMS (hierarchical database)/RDMS (relational database) database experience An understanding of Transaction Processing (TIP/HVTIP) or similar

Over and above the technical requirements for this role, we would expect the individual to be able to apply technical expertise within a service delivery environment and be comfortable to develop technical solutions without adversely impacting the operational effectiveness of the supported systems. You may have a good understanding of ITIL which provides you with the framework to achieving this.

Strong interpersonal skills are expected as you will be communicating regularly with our client. Any previous experience within Public Sector organisations would be welcomed.

You will be expected to participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota to provide 24x7 support of the applications

Working in Application Support means you'll use both creative and critical thinking skills to maintain application systems that are crucial to the daily operations of the firm. You'll work collaboratively in teams on a wide range of projects based on your primary area of focus: design or programming. While learning to fix application and data issues as they arise, you'll also gain exposure to software development, testing, deployment, maintenance and improvement, in addition to production lifecycle methodologies and risk guidelines. + BS/BA degree or equivalent experience

+ Basic knowledge of application development
