Arizona Game and Fish Department company history timeline

1912

When Arizona became a state in 1912, many wildlife species were in dire straits.

1923

The Arizona Wildlife Federation was founded in 1923 to take politics out of fish and game management and to promote the management of Arizona’s natural resources on a scientific basis.

1974

In 1974, the "Help Our Wildlife" (HOW) program was developed.

1977

Minimum sums of damage were assessed for each species of wildlife. For example, the minimum sum of damages to recover the poaching loss of an endangered species in 1977 was $750 whereas today's civil liability minimum is $8,000.

1979

In 1979, the OGT hotline only operated from 6 AM until 10 PM. In addition, there is now an online reporting feature.

2003

The AWF got its start as the Arizona Game Protection Association and celebrated 80 years of conservation activity in 2003.
