Equipment Operation and Versatility * Operates loaders and other necessary equipment to support asphalt and maintenance operations. * Demonstrates flexibility in operating multiple types of machinery based on project needs and crew requirements. * Adjusts techniques depending on terrain, material type, or job complexity. 2. Safety and Preventive Maintenance * Conducts daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance (fueling, lubrication, visual checks). * Identifies mechanical issues early and communicates maintenance needs promptly. * Adheres to OSHA and MSHA safety standards while operating equipment or working on active job sites. 3. Communication and Team Coordination * Maintains strong verbal and written communication with crew leads and coworkers. * Uses radio or phone effectively for coordination during paving or maintenance work. * Supports a productive and collaborative job site atmosphere. 4. Technical Aptitude and Controls * Understands and navigates computerized or electronic control panels on modern equipment. * Troubleshoots basic operational or display issues and adjusts settings as needed. * Keeps equipment functioning efficiently during operations. 5. Production Awareness and Job Performance * Consistently meets daily production targets, material placement goals, and job milestones. * Prioritizes quality of work and efficiency in material handling and site cleanup. * Takes initiative to support job progress, even outside core operator duties when needed. 6. Policy and Procedure Compliance * Follows all company policies, safety protocols, and job site procedures. * Completes assigned tasks within established timelines and scope. * Contributes to maintaining a safe, compliant, and productive work environment.     Schedule: 45-50 hours per week, Mon-Fri, and Saturdays We are looking for an experienced Screed Operator to join our team in the operation of an asphalt paver. The Screed Operator will be responsible for controlling the screed, the component of the paver that levels and smooths the asphalt mixture, ensuring the proper distribution, thickness, and smoothness of the asphalt surface. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to safety and quality. Key Responsibilities: Operate Screed: Operate and control the screed of an asphalt paver, ensuring the proper spreading and smoothening of the asphalt material to meet job specifications. Set and Adjust Screed: Set the screed to the correct elevation and width based on the project requirements. Adjust the screed during operation to ensure an even and consistent asphalt layer. Monitor Asphalt Flow: Continuously monitor the flow of the asphalt mixture to ensure that the paver is working efficiently and that there is no inconsistency in the material distribution. Ensure Quality Control: Verify that the surface being laid meets the required specifications for thickness, smoothness, and compaction. Address any irregularities in real-time and communicate with the crew if adjustments are needed. Coordinate with Other Operators: Work closely with the paver operator and other crew members to ensure smooth, continuous paving. Ensure that the equipment is properly synchronized to maintain consistent paving operations. Safety Compliance: Follow all safety guidelines and protocols while operating the screed. Ensure the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safe practices in high-traffic and high-risk construction environments. Maintenance and Inspection: Perform daily inspections of the screed and related equipment, checking for wear and tear. Report any mechanical issues or malfunctions to the supervisor or maintenance team and assist with basic maintenance tasks when required. Work in Variable Conditions: Be prepared to work in various weather conditions and on challenging terrains, ensuring that the work is performed efficiently despite external factors. Qualifications: Previous experience as a screed operator or in a similar role is preferred. Experience with asphalt pavers or heavy construction equipment is a plus. Knowledge of Paving Operations: Understanding of how to adjust and operate the screed to meet the required specifications for smoothness and asphalt consistency. Mechanical Aptitude: Basic understanding of paving equipment and troubleshooting. Ability to perform minor maintenance and make adjustments when necessary. Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety practices in the construction industry and familiarity with safety standards for heavy equipment operation. Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physical labor, including standing for long periods, lifting heavy objects, and working in demanding outdoor environments. Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills to coordinate with other operators and report problems or changes in the work process. Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail to ensure that the asphalt surface meets quality standards for smoothness, thickness, and consistency. Work Environment: Outdoor construction sites with exposure to noise, dust, and inclement weather. Full-time hours with occasional overtime based on project deadlines.
