Baylor Law School seeks a motivated, experienced candidate with excellent teaching and collaborative skills to lead our Academic Success Program. The ideal candidate will be a creative, organized, compassionate leader who is eager to engage extensively with students from matriculation through their admission into the bar.

This position is a full-time faculty, non-tenure-track lecturer position. The successful candidate should be available to start ideally no later than January 1, 2023, but the start date is negotiable.

The selected individual will have the opportunity to lead in further significant development of Baylor Laws formal program for academic support. The Director will work closely with members of the Law School leadership, staff, and faculty to envision, design, manage, and implement programming to support the schools educational, training, and professional development goals for its students. The Director will draw on experience, research, and national best practices to develop and coordinate programming to support teaching and learning at Baylor Law.
Core Responsibilities:

In collaboration with the faculty, develop, and implement cohesive and comprehensive programming to help transition students into the law school learning environment and to promote their academic success through graduation and bar exam passage. Research and implement the most current best practices for fostering academic success skills and bar exam success. Develop data-driven mechanisms for evaluating the academic success of students and program goals. Regularly review Baylor Laws academic and bar support program and make recommendations to the faculty to enhance the educational experience for students. Teach in the Academic Success Program. Attend and participate in faculty meetings as requested. Serve on faculty and staff committees that seek to advance the goals of Baylor Law and the Academic Success Program. Supervise academic support staff.

The Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will lead collaborative efforts to develop and implement a strategic vision and plan that inculcates diversity and inclusion excellence as a core value throughout all aspects of the Law School community. The Assistant Dean also will lead collaborative efforts to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to recruit, retain, and assist the academic and professional development of a diverse student population, especially students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession. The Assistant Dean will report primarily and directly to the Dean while also reporting secondarily to and collaborating closely with the University's Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The Assistant Dean will serve as a critical member of the Law School's senior leadership team and the University's bias incidents response team. This position will collaborate closely with Law School stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, alumni and the legal community.
Primary roles and responsibilities:
Strategic Planning. Lead efforts among Law School stakeholders to develop and implement a strategic plan that inculcates diversity and inclusion excellence as a core value throughout all aspects of the Law School community.
Monitor national trends, peer institution efforts, and seek benchmarks for successful diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Collect and analyze data, information, and stakeholder input to inform decision-making and make recommendations. Benchmark, analyze, and report on progress toward diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Student Support. Lead collaborative efforts to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to recruit, retain, and assist the academic and professional development of a diverse student population, especially students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession.
Design and implement multi-faceted support services for students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession to enhance their academic and professional success. Develop and administer regular programming to support a diverse student population and to promote cultural competency and cross-cultural awareness. Advise individual students with a special focus on advising and addressing the academic, professional, cultural, and social-emotional concerns of students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds (e.g. religious, socioeconomic, racial, gender/sexual identity, political, immigrants, veterans, and individuals with disabilities). Provide support and guidance for affinity organizations including but not limited to Black Law Student Association, Hispanic Law Student Association, Women's Law Student Association, Asian Pacific American Law Student Association, First Generation Law Student Association, and Capital Equity Alliance. Facilitate communication, collaboration, and connection among student affinity organizations and between student affinity organizations and the Law School community. Collaborate with student-facing offices, including Student Affairs, Professional Development, Graduate Studies, Law Library, and Academic Success & Bar Services, as well as with senior leadership, faculty, student affinity organizations, and alumni, to shape strategy and coordinate school-wide efforts to foster a welcoming and inclusive learning environment and to align departmental work and needs.
Dean's Advisory Council on Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity. Support ACIDE, a student-initiated, multi-stakeholder working group, created to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion goals at the Law School. Collaborate with ACIDE on the design and execution of programming and projects and communications with and outreach to Law School stakeholders.


Compliance and Enforcement. Lead efforts to comply with and enforce University anti-discrimination and human dignity policies, including serving as the Law School representative and pipeline to the University bias incident reporting team.


Additional Responsibilities:
Community Outreach, Education, and Training . Lead efforts to foster a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for a diverse student population through programming and training opportunities for the Law School community. Lead efforts to establish the Law School as a thought leader and champion for diversity in the legal profession and community through outreach to relevant external stakeholders and partners.


Student Recruitment. Partner with the Admission Office to develop and implement new strategies and enhance current strategies to enroll students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession. Partnerships and opportunities with Columbus City Schools are of particular interest. Support student recruitment efforts through participation in targeted recruiting events and conferences and engaging with prospective applicants from traditionally underrepresented groups who are considering applying to and/or enrolling at the Law School.


Required Skills and Abilities:
Advanced degree of master's level or above. A minimum of three years of professional experience in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion goals in an organizational setting. Demonstrated understanding and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion issues as they relate to the legal profession or students in a law school or in a professional school community. Strong interpersonal and counseling skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. The ability and/or skill to work professionally without supervision and demonstrate considerable initiative. Demonstrated enthusiasm for working with and a commitment to serving diverse student populations, including part-time and non-traditional students.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school. Formal professional experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion programming in legal organizations or higher education.
