The cryo-EM Core provides both transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and cryo-EM sample preparation and data collection services to researchers.
As our cryo-EM Core Scientist, you will work with the cryo-EM Core Director and will be responsible for the following Key Areas:
* Operate and maintain the Thermo Fisher Arctis cryo-PFIB system and related cryo-EM instrumentation.
* Develop, optimize, and document cryo-FIB milling workflows for a variety of biological samples.
* Lead method development to integrate FIB-SEM workflows with light microscopy and tomography pipelines.
* Collaborate with faculty, postdocs, and students on sample preparation and data acquisition for in situ cryo-ET studies.
* Participate in grant and manuscript writing with VAI faculty
* Provide training and technical support to internal and external users.

* 2 - 5 years of hands-on experience in single particle cryo-EM and cryo-ET is required and you should be familiar with modern electron microscopes, electron detectors, and cryo-ET data collection procedures and single particle and cryo-ET image processing pipeline.

Job Description

* Perform analytical techniques upon biological specimens such as qPCR, ELISAs, etc.
* Determine protein levels (host cell protein, protein A) in monoclonal antibody samples
* Run analytical methods, which may include HPLC, UPLC, SEC, gel electrophoresis, capillary electrophoresis, total protein analysis, amino acid analysis or similar methods
* Manage samples including ensuring proper storage and handling of samples
* Work with multiple scientists within the group to effectively schedule work

The Senior Research Technician will engage in drug administration, anesthesia, sample collection, CNS access, and data review. The Senior Research Technician will hone skills in areas of problem solving, collaboration, and leadership while working closely with Supervisors on training initiatives for technical staff and assessment/implementation of new processes.
Role Responsibilities
Perform and assist with restraint, handling, and manipulation of animal species.
Perform animal observations and monitoring to assess animal health during studies.
Perform and assist with sample collection; may include but is not limited to blood draws (cephalic, jugular, femoral, ear vein, sublingual, submental, tail vein, subclavian, port, and catheter), CSF collection (lumbar taps, and port/catheter system), CM taps and urine/feces collection.
Drug and test article calculations and administration; routes include but not limited to, ocular, topical, tablets, oral gavage, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous, intrathecal, and intraperitoneal injections.
Operate anesthesia machines and use short-term chemical restraint. May include anesthesia monitoring, vital sign monitoring, assessment of anesthetic depth, intubation, extubating, catheter placement and use of patient warming systems.
Collect, record, and review data on paper and/or in an electronic laboratory information management system (LIMS) in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
Utilize non-aseptic and aseptic technique with surgical site preparation.

Perform physical testing such as FOB's, ECG's, telemetries, and functional recovery assessments.
Proficient in data review and editing for GLP compliance.
Serve as Lead Point Technician on studies and maintain/review study books.
