The Research Associate (post-doc) will join a research lab focused on understanding the role of the tau protein in neurodegeneration and developing novel therapeutics for diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies. The applicant will help carry out and develop research projects to understand the mechanisms involved in the development and progression of these diseases as well as develop novel gene therapies using a variety of techniques and model systems. The position will involve work with rodent models, cell culturing, and in vitro experimental techniques. Job Description * Run basic analytical instruments such as plate readers, microplate washers, automated workstations etc. * Use low-volume laboratory liquid sample handling equipment (micropipettes) to prepare samples and solutions * Prepare analytical samples and assay reagents according to established procedures * Perform analytical techniques upon biological specimens such as qPCR, ELISAs, etc. * Determine protein levels (host cell protein, protein A) in monoclonal antibody samples * Run analytical methods, which may include HPLC, UPLC, SEC, gel electrophoresis, capillary electrophoresis, total protein analysis, amino acid analysis or similar methods * Manage samples including ensuring proper storage and handling of samples * Work with multiple scientists within the group to effectively schedule work * Perform data analysis by using instrument computer software and office applications such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel * Analyze and interpret experimental data independently * Contribute to writing of e.g. SOPs, study reports and protocols * Write up laboratory notebooks regularly in compliance with guidelines * Order, maintain and stock lab supplies such as common reagents, primary packaging materials, gloves, cleaning agents, safety glasses etc. * Take care of general housekeeping activities such as cleaning bench spaces, processing equipment and glassware * Apply lean 5S methods to laboratory operations Qualifications The ideal candidate would possess: * Experience with SEC assays * Experience in handling and analyzing proteins and other macromolecules * Experience with low-volume liquid handling equipment strongly desired * Highly computer literate. Job Description The Senior Research Technician will engage in drug administration, anesthesia, sample collection, CNS access, and data review. The Senior Research Technician will hone skills in areas of problem solving, collaboration, and leadership while working closely with Supervisors on training initiatives for technical staff and assessment/implementation of new processes. Role Responsibilities Perform and assist with restraint, handling, and manipulation of animal species. Perform animal observations and monitoring to assess animal health during studies. Perform and assist with sample collection; may include but is not limited to blood draws (cephalic, jugular, femoral, ear vein, sublingual, submental, tail vein, subclavian, port, and catheter), CSF collection (lumbar taps, and port/catheter system), CM taps and urine/feces collection. Drug and test article calculations and administration; routes include but not limited to, ocular, topical, tablets, oral gavage, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous, intrathecal, and intraperitoneal injections. Operate anesthesia machines and use short-term chemical restraint. May include anesthesia monitoring, vital sign monitoring, assessment of anesthetic depth, intubation, extubating, catheter placement and use of patient warming systems. Collect, record, and review data on paper and/or in an electronic laboratory information management system (LIMS) in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Utilize non-aseptic and aseptic technique with surgical site preparation. Perform humane euthanasia as necessary. Perform physical testing such as FOB's, ECG's, telemetries, and functional recovery assessments. Proficient in data review and editing for GLP compliance. Serve as Lead Point Technician on studies and maintain/review study books. Be subject matter expert (SME) in animal research functions and train others in tasks related to study functions. May collaborate with supervisor to develop and improve on training expectations and processes for research staff. May collaborate with supervisor to develop new function methods and procedures along with SOP collaboration involvement. Provide leadership and serve as main contact for technical staff in the absence of supervisor. Perform other training or duties as assigned. Role Requirements High School Diploma/GED required, bachelor's degree preferred. Relevant area of study ideal. Minimum 3 years' relevant experience required. LAT Certification Preferred Proficient in data review for GLP compliance. Proficient with Microsoft Office core applications and the ability to learn and use additional applications.
