About the job As a Thermal Test Engineer in the MFG Engineering Group, you will conduct testing on a variety of computer components, servers, and integrated racks. Projects related to thermal responses, environmental testing, data acquisition, general instrumentation, and measurement diagnostics. You will be reporting to the Sr. Director of Manufacturing. You will Conduct thermal tests on various computer components or assembled systems, analyze results, and present reports, for internal and external customer visibility. Engage with specialized environmental equipment to test objects to controlled thermal profiles using heat and environmental chambers. Use computer modeling and thermal analysis tools (examples include Thermal Desktop and ANSYS) to perform thermal simulation and analysis that inform test designs. Conduct experimental thermal testing and correlate results with computer models. Operate test equipment (thermal chambers, specialized heating systems, etc.) using fundamental knowledge of best test and measurement practices. Prepare supporting safety and engineering documentation and participate in formal engineering design reviews. Perform supporting engineering calculations for structural, mechanical, and diagnostic systems. Provide solutions to problems of moderate complexity that require the evaluation of readily identifiable factors using standard techniques and methodologies. Interface with peers, both internal and external to the organization, to complete various reporting and follow-up tasks. Guide the completion of projects and conduct technical tasks and/or set specific technical strategy and direction for self and/or others. Work as a technical expert on a multidisciplinary team and support activities of technical staff as a leader on technical projects. You have BS in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering or a related domain. 3+ years of industry experience in designing or maintaining thermal solutions for data center servers (preferred). Linux and any test software or application experience. Advanced knowledge of thermodynamics and thermo-mechanical systems. Comprehensive knowledge of heat transfer in engineering materials/structures. Comprehensive knowledge of material engineering properties and associated analysis and simulation methods used in thermal problem solving. Comprehensive knowledge and/or experience in one or more of the following areas: instrumentation sensors, general data acquisition theory, and best-practice instrumentation. Experience in electrical power systems and controls design relevant to thermo-mechanical systems. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
