Akkodis is seeking an experienced AutomationEngineer for a direct hire role in Katy, TX. You will design, develop, and support industrial automation systems across a variety of projects. This role will work on both greenfield and brownfield initiatives, contributing to system design, programming, testing, and commissioning. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on technical expertise in PLC, SCADA, and HMI programming and is comfortable collaborating across engineering, operations, and field teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and implement automation solutions for industrial control systems
Program, test, and troubleshoot PLC, SCADA, and HMI applications
Support both greenfield system builds and brownfield upgrades or migrations
Participate in system architecture, control strategies, and standards development
Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and support on-site commissioning activities
Troubleshoot and resolve automation and controls issues during startup and production
Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and process engineering teams
Maintain and update technical documentation, including control narratives and system diagrams
Support continuous improvement and system optimization initiatives
Occasional travel (approximately 10-15%) for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), site commissioning, and startup support.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering preferred.
5-10 years of experience in automation or controls engineering
Strong hands-on experience with PLC, SCADA, and HMI programming
Proven experience supporting both brownfield and greenfield projects
Experience participating in FAT, commissioning, and startup activities
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
Excellent communication and documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications

What you'll do…
As an A&C Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
Collaborating with Senior Engineers to develop, test and deploy programable Logic Controller (PLC) programs, ensuring seamless automation and control of electrical systems and equipment across various industrial settings.
Designing intuitive Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and Supervisory Control Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, empowering operators to efficiently monitor and manage generation and industrial processes.
Contributing to the design and development of hardware components, including sensors, actuators, and control systems, adhering to global industry standards and ensuring reliability and performance.
Conducting rigorous testing and meticulous debugging of PLC programs and hardware systems, swiftly identifying and resolving issues to meet project deadlines and quality standards.
Creating and maintain comprehensive documentation of PLC programs, hardware design, and systems configurations, ensuring seamless knowledge transfer and streamlined project management.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams to assist in the execution of automation and control projects, providing technical support during the process of system integration, and post-implementation phases.
You'll make an Impact by:
Working closely with the System Integration Team, you will be instrumental in maintaining the high reliability of microgrid generation systems. This role involves collaboration with various Enchanted Rock business units, including ER Electric, Ops, and Management, to develop and sustain operational plans from site construction through equipment lifecycle. You'll also liaise with the Microgrid Control Center to ensure Enchanted Rock meets customer demands for on-demand electricity.
You'll sweep us off our feet if you:
Have strong problem-solving and analytical skills to identify and resolve challenges in automation systems effectively.
Have excellent knowledge of electrical theory, wiring, terminations, and hands-on experience with low voltage and medium voltage systems.
Have excellent abilities to collaborate efficiently with team members.
Are a self-motivated and proactive approach to learning and taking ownership of tasks.
Have a collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute ideas and support team goals.

Requirements
What you'll need:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Automation, Control Systems, or related field.
Familiarity with PLC programming concepts (e.g., ladder logic, function block diagrams and structured text) and hands-on experience in HMI/SCADA development.
Competence in at least one programming language (e.g., ladder logic, function block, structured text) is preferred.
