Prepares and reviews various reports and documents such as booking reports, vehicle lists, personal property lists, hospital duty rosters, productivity reports, shift activity reports, arrest reports, accident reports, citizen complaint documents, court documents, affidavits, etc.; maintains files and makes copies as necessary Serves civil process papers including search warrants, protective orders, subpoenas and arrest warrants; enters various data into the computer system; checks criminal backgrounds and histories; answers telephone calls and assisting citizens with inquiries. Oversees inventory of equipment and supplies; orders needed equipment and supplies; coordinates maintenance of fleet vehicles and communications equipment; maintains database of repairs and issued equipment and vehicles. Oversees the uniform budget; orders and issues uniforms; attends staff meetings and other meetings as required. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or GED, supplemented by vocational/technical training in Basic Law Enforcement; five (5) months previous experience and/or training involving law enforcement work. Answers any calls from the public requesting assistance in burglaries, domestic violence, or any other situation needing the response from law enforcement authorities; writes incident reports on all calls answered indicating the nature of call and any findings at the scene; attends public meetings to maintain order; serves warrants and subpoenas upon court order. Assists the solicitor and district attorney with case preparation by gathering evidence, assuring the chain of evidence is kept, and testifying in court as necessary. When assigned to the Warrant Unit: Take appropriate law enforcement action as the situation dictates. Researches information received on wanted persons from family members, acquaintances, and employers; Apprehends and arrests offenders; transports offenders to the jail. Provides sworn testimony in court proceedings. Provides assistance to other divisions and units as required. Testifies in court as necessary. May be called in from off-duty time when necessary. Performs other related duties as directed. When assigned to the ADVANCE Unit: Take appropriate law enforcement action as the situation dictates. Instruct the 5th grade core-curriculum at elementary schools in a class-room environment facilitating core lessons on effects of drugs, building self-esteem, resistance strategies, internet safety, cyber-bullying, gangs, drug awareness, personal safety and violence prevention strategies. Prepare, organize, and facilitate presentations for various youth related activities, including the annual ADVANCE Summer Camp, Water Safety Programs, and additional community outreach youth programs. Attend Parent-Teacher Association meetings; present information; discuss issues at schools related to ADVANCE program and events. Engage in proactive police activities with the public; provide guidance and information to the public on issues including safety and the ADVANCE community outreach programs. Testifies in court as necessary. May be called in from off-duty time when necessary. Performs other related duties as required. When assigned to the Lake Patrol Unit: Take appropriate law enforcement action as the situation dictates. Lake Patrol officers will insure the safety of boat operators, enforce the Georgia Safe Boating Act and protect property along the waterways of Hall County. Lake Patrol Officers will enforce State laws, County ordinances, and strive to keep Hall County waterways safe. Officers assigned to Lake Patrol should have operational knowledge of boats, navigational knowledge of Lake Lanier as well as knowledge of boating and boater safety laws. Conduct Boating Safety Classes. Attends meetings pertaining to lake related activities, such as Event security, operations planning and emergency/incident water responses. Works closely with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, U. S. Army Corp of Engineers U. S. Coast Guard (auxiliary), and other State and federal agencies. Inspects and maintains boats and equipment assigned to the Lake Patrol Unit. Daily changes in the Lake level and weather, as well as the seasonal variations in the level of boating activity will directly affect the difficulty of the work. The work will typically involve the operation of a boat for long periods of time and may require great physical exertion when assisting boaters. Officers assigned to Lake Patrol will be required to work the vast majority of weekends and holidays during the summer or other times of peak boating traffic on Lake Lanier. During boat maintenance, lifting of heavy parts and/or equipment in excess of 50lbs may be required. Compile monthly report. May be called in from off-duty time when necessary. Responds to calls relayed by dispatchers, including domestic disputes, abuse, assaults, burglaries, thefts, fatalities, traffic accidents, property damage, alarms, bomb threats, lost or missing persons searches, rescue operations, unattended deaths, public service duties, stranded motorists, or dangerous drivers. Prevents/discovers commission of crime; writes citations; pursues fleeing suspects; apprehends, arrests and processes criminals, fugitives and offenders as appropriate; assists in booking inmates into jail; transports arrestees, prisoners, members of the general public, or other individuals as required. Conducts preliminary investigations; interviews victims, complainants and witnesses and takes statements; gathers information and evidence; secures crime scenes; prepares investigative reports and sketches; participates in court activities; testifies in judicial proceedings. Performs rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters, which may include lifting, dragging or carrying people away from dangerous situations, securing/evacuating people from particular areas, administering medical aid, or extinguishing small fires. Provides assistance and backup support to other officers as necessary; provides emergency response on a twenty-four hour basis as needed; provides assistance to other law enforcement or public service agencies as appropriate. Establishes road blocks; administers roadside field sobriety tests; writes citations; identifies wanted persons/vehicles; impounds vehicles; assists stranded motorists; ensures roadways are clear of obstacles and hazards. Performs other duties including monitoring and responding to calls for assistance, investigating accidents and reported crimes, interviewing citizens, conducting searches, pursuing fleeing and subduing resisting suspects, effecting arrests, and processing and transporting prisoners. Communicates with command/supervisory personnel during emergency response and critical incidents. Inspects and maintains assigned police vehicle, uniform, weapons, and equipment. Maintains records, logs, and files of work activities; maintains current manuals, policies/procedures, bulletins, map books, and other materials for reference and/or review. Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; responds to requests for service or assistance; communicates effectively and coherently over law enforcement radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications. Attends shift meetings, training sessions and seminars as required to remain knowledgeable of departmental operations, to promote improved job performance, and to stay current with changing policies, procedures, codes, and criminal/civil case law; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations. Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: receives and reviews various documentation, including logs, evidence sheets, criminal history reports, warrants, subpoenas, general orders and laws, codes and ordinances; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation, including logs, accident and incident reports, property/evidence sheets, citations, booking sheets, etc.; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records. Additional Functions: Depending on area of assignment, may also conduct internal investigations, assist with police recruitment, participate in neighborhood watch meetings, and visit schools. Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain Basic Law Enforcement certification. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license.
