Product Strategy & Ops, Strategist III
Cedar 4.3
Cedar job in New York, NY
Our healthcare system is the leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the U.S. Every year, over 50 million Americans suffer adverse financial consequences as a result of seeking care, from lower credit scores to garnished wages. The challenge is only getting worse, as high deductible health plans are the fastest growing plan design in the U.S.
Cedar's mission is to leverage data science, smart product design and personalization to make healthcare more affordable and accessible. Today, healthcare providers still engage with its consumers in a “one-size-fits-all” approach; and Cedar is excited to leverage consumer best practices to deliver a superior experience.
The Role
We're looking for a Product Strategy & Ops, Strategist III to strengthen how our Product team plans, delivers, and scales new products and features.
In this role, you'll bring structure to how we plan and deliver our roadmap - managing the systems and processes that support planning while helping execute launches that deliver measurable business impact. You'll bridge strategy and execution: running planning cycles, tracking progress against goals, and coordinating the teams that turn product ideas into results.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives on clarity, enjoys organizing complex work, and helps teams operate at their best. Lastly, our ideal candidate will be able to work out of Cedar's NYC HQ office 1-3 times a week in person.
Responsibilities:
Product Strategy & Planning
Support strategic planning and prioritization: Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to align roadmaps to company goals and client needs, contributing to quarterly and annual planning cycles.
Maintain roadmap and capacity visibility: Keep a clear, accurate view of Cedar's product investments, dependencies, and available capacity through dashboards and trackers that make priorities and progress transparent.
Strengthen tools and workflows: Help evolve the systems (Jira, roadmap tracker, dashboards) that streamline intake, prioritization, and reporting across teams.
Support operating rhythms: Prepare materials and insights for Monthly Operating Reviews (MORs) and other leadership forums, summarizing progress, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Advance product metrics and insights: Partner with PS&O and Product Analytics to analyze product performance data, uncover gaps or inefficiencies, and highlight opportunities to improve adoption, experience, and business outcomes.
Product Delivery
Support product and feature launches: Partner with Product, Engineering, Commercial, Marketing, and Client teams to coordinate and execute feature rollouts - helping determine when features are ready to scale to general availability (GA) and ensuring smooth, well coordinated launches.
Ensure cross functional readiness: Equip internal and client-facing teams with clear, up to date resources such as demos, decks, and release materials that communicate value and drive adoption.
Maintain clear communication: Support the creation and delivery of product release communications, including roadmaps, release notes, and client updates that provide transparency into what's coming and why.
Monitor adoption and performance: Track rollout progress and feature utilization, contributing to monthly readouts and surfacing insights on adoption trends and client impact.
Requirements:
5-7 years of experience in product operations, delivery management, or program management within SaaS, fintech, or healthcare technology environments.
The ability to come into Cedar's NYC HQ office 1-3 times a week.
Strong cross-functional collaborator experienced partnering with Product, Engineering, and Commercial teams to coordinate feature launches and complex initiatives.
Operational and execution oriented mindset with experience managing roadmaps, delivery timelines, and planning tools (e.g., Jira or Smartsheet).
Analytical and detail focused, able to interpret data, track adoption metrics, and connect product outcomes to business impact.

Product Security Engineer
The Role:
Security at Cedar isn't about saying "no"-it's about building the "yes."
We are looking for a Product Security Engineer who is a developer at heart. You won't run scans and file tickets; you will write code, build infrastructure, and ship internal products that make the secure path the easiest path for our developers.
You will act as a pragmatic partner to our Maker teams, helping them ship high-value features safely without sacrificing velocity. You will solve for high-risk, high-value workflows across product, infrastructure, and integrations.
What You'll Solve: here is an example of a project that a current Product Security Engineer in this role recently shipped:
Problem:
Developers needed to troubleshoot a workflow and could only reproduce the problem if the logs were updated to include otherwise access-restricted, sensitive data.
Putting sensitive data into logs is risky, and the status quo involved tracing identifiers through multiple systems until the sensitive data could be safely retrieved. This was labor intensive and slow, while patients felt the pain of our delays.
Solution: Instead of saying 'no', we built a reusable, custom logger that could safely accommodate sensitive data. It can be temporarily enabled and stored and analyzed safely.
Impact: They partnered with a product team as an early beta tester to solve a concrete friction point. The system increased developer velocity and improved our security posture by removing the temptation for developers to log sensitive information.
What You'll Do
Build Security Tooling: Shift into a development role to architect robust tools in Terraform, Bash, Go, or Python. You'll use gRPC, GraphQL, and HTTP to build automation that eliminates manual security toil and developer pain.
Architect for Scale: Grab pairing time with product engineers to co-design features across Cedar. You will help bake security in at the design phase, not bolt it on at the end.
Pave the Road: Review Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) and IAM roles, not just to find flaws, but to offer code-ready improvements that educate developers and streamline future deployments.
Advise, Don't Block: Serve as a trusted advisor. When you find a vulnerability, you don't just report it-you help scope the fix based on a pragmatic understanding of the risk and the business context.
About You
You are a developer first: You have substantial experience in software development and are comfortable writing production-ready code (we use Python and Go, but we welcome all backgrounds).
You are pragmatic: You understand that "perfect" security doesn't exist. You can weigh security risks against business goals and communicate trade-offs effectively to non-security stakeholders.
You are proactive: You don't wait for a ticket. You look for patterns in vulnerabilities and build systemic fixes or libraries to prevent entire classes of bugs.
You know the cloud: You have deep familiarity with AWS infrastructure best practices, IAM, and containerization.
You are a teacher: Your default setting is collaborative, not combative: You're excited about enabling software developers.
Bonus Points
Experience creating developer-focused security libraries or CLI tools.
Familiarity with HIPAA, PCI, or securing fintech/payment data.
Participation in CTFs, bug bounties, or open-source security contributions.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Compensation Range and Benefits
Salary/Hourly Rate Range*: $157,250 - $185,000
This role is equity eligible
This role offers a competitive benefits and wellness package

Staff Software Engineer (Payment Platform)
The Role:
Cedar is seeking a staff engineer to embed in the Payments Platform team and lead technical strategy across multiple related squads. The Payments Platform squad is responsible for building and maintaining the core payment processing infrastructure that powers all Cedar applications and ensures seamless transactions for our patients. This isn't a typical Staff role-you'll own the systems that power money movement from authentication through settlement, shaping how millions of patients experience paying for care.
The Kinds of Problems You'll Solve:
Lead the development of high-impact projects in the Payment product space.
Bring clarity to highly ambiguous projects and ensure we are building for long-term scalability and robustness.
Develop a deep understanding of payment lifecycles and vendors' functionalities, identify improvement opportunities to streamline the payment experience and reduce cost.
Collaborate with your counterparts on the product, design, and commercial teams to understand patient challenges and formulate technical strategies to address them.
Drive key technical initiatives such as invoice payment decoupling.
Evaluate build vs buy tradeoffs, influence vendor strategy, and advocate for what's best for patients and the business.
Mentor engineers at all levels and uplevel them through training and sharing best practices.
Drive org-level changes to improve existing processes, infrastructure, architecture, business problems, team well-being, and development satisfaction, etc.
Why this role matters:
Payments are the backbone of Cedar's platform. Every failed authorization or brittle integration translates into real cost for patients and providers. By modernizing Cedar's payments platform, you'll reduce friction for patients, save providers money, and establish durable payment integration patterns that scale across the company.
Who you are:
8+ years of professional software development experience.
Proven track record as a backend architect-designing APIs, services, and event-driven systems that scale reliably.
A demonstrated track record of leading large technical projects that span multiple engineering teams and require multi-functional teamwork.
Experience leading vendor integrations, especially building a platform with various vendor integrations with consolidation.
Experience raising standards across teams-mentoring not just juniors but also senior engineers through code/design review, setting patterns, and influencing architecture forums.
Ability to scale solutions and build for long-term supportability
Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to drive projects from ideation through to completion
Experience collaborating with both technical and non-technical cross-functional teams
A natural inclination for ownership with a bias-for-action mindset
Excitement about our mission and a passion for solving problems to improve the healthcare financial experience
Payments experience sets ahead, but is not required.
What this role is not:
Infra-only engineers without product engineering experience shipping to end users
Data-pipeline-only or infra/DevOps-heavy profiles
Frontend-heavy engineers or those seeking a 50/50 full-stack role
Candidates without meaningful vendor integration experience
Compensation Range and Benefits:
Salary/Hourly Rate Range*: $216,750 - $280,000
This role is equity eligible
This role offers a competitive benefits and wellness package
*Subject to location, experience, and education

AI Engineer (Applied Scientist) III
The Role:
Cedar is seeking an AI Engineer/Applied Scientist III to join our team and help build and optimize product features powered by generative AI. Our goal is to use AI to drive bill clarity for patients and streamline workflows for our customers, which are large healthcare systems across the US.
This role is for the Support/Kora squad, where you will work on Kora, an AI Voice Agent purpose-built for patient billing, which is the central product for our Cedar Support offering. In this role, you will develop a deep understanding of Cedar's data and workflows and utilize your skillset in rigorous data analysis combined with production-level coding and rapid execution to design, build, and improve the AI workflows that solve problems for patients via the voice medium.
Responsibilities:
Dive into unstructured data with finesse and rigor, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches to solve complex problems. This data can include call transcripts, patient account details, and more
Design robust experiment plans that allow you to rapidly test hypotheses and solve problems that will lead to an improved patient experience (and execute these plans!)
Build and enhance features for our AI Voice Agent, Kora - utilizing your skillset in production-level coding as well as prompt and context engineering
Measure and track the impact of the new features and enhancements that you build, displaying a strong ownership mentality as you continue to iterate on Kora based on your results and findings
Partner closely with other scientists, engineers, designers, and product counterparts to solve problems as a team
Work in a fast-paced environment where we cheer each other on as we find small ways to make the patient experience a little bit better every day, while we work towards our ultimate goal to transform the healthcare financial experience
Skills and Experience:
3 or more years of full-time experience working in a structured product development environment on a product that had frequent releases (i.e., regular updates with enhancements, bug fixes, and new features)
Experience collaborating with partners from different job functions, and the ability to translate business requirements into technical builds
A strong understanding of both the scientific method and software engineering principles, with a proven ability to balance experimental rigor and rapid production deployment
Experience with modern programming languages (in this role, you'll use both Python and Typescript)
Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment, showing a tendency toward speed and action while achieving clarity from ambiguity
A passion not only for AI, but also in the application of AI to solve real problems for real users. If you are a match for this role, you'll feel comfortable diving deep into the data to figure out the best way to solve a particular user problem, presenting your findings, incorporating updates based on feedback, and implementing your solution in code. Ultimately doing all of this to make a tangible difference for users
You are excited by the opportunity to use your combined skillset in data science and AI engineering to make a true impact on patient lives
Compensation Range and Benefits
Salary/Hourly Rate Range*: $170,000 - $215,000
This role is equity eligible
This role offers a competitive benefits and wellness package
