As a Machinist (Programming / Setup) at Coperion in Whitewater, Wisconsin, you will support production activities by setting up, adjusting, and operating a variety of machine tools, including mills, drills, saws, lathes, CNC, and other equipment necessary to produce precision metal parts. Your role is to ensure parts are manufactured to exact specifications, maintaining high quality and efficiency standards. You will work within established procedures, collaborate on more complex tasks when needed, and contribute to the overall productivity of our manufacturing team.
What You'll Do:
CNC machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, saws, or grinders.
Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments.
Set up, adjust, and operate all basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
Support the activities of operations by setting up, adjusting, and operating a variety of machines.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and quality.
Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment to minimize downtime.
Support the overall manufacturing process as needed.

You will be part of Coperion's manufacturing team, working alongside other skilled machinists, technicians, and production personnel. Required Education/Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent.
5-7 years' progressive experience operating drills, lathes, milling machines, and CNC equipment.
Ability to read BOMs and work according to blueprints and technical drawings.
Experienced with the use of hand tools, power tools, and basic fabrication equipment.
Strong understanding of precision measurement tools and techniques.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications:
A 2-year trade certificate in machining is a plus.
Knowledge of safety standards and best practices in a manufacturing environment is mandatory.
Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
Welding certifications (MIG, ARC, gas welding) are highly desirable.
Prior experience working with extruder gearboxes, industrial machinery, or refurbishment projects.
Ability to operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment safely.

Job Summary:
Set up, adjust, and operate conventional or computer numeric controlled internal and/or external grinders to grind surfaces of exacting dimensional and finish requirements. Essential Functions:
1. Operate assigned machinery to fabricate parts to the required specifications by:
Setting up and operating machine.
Selecting, aligning, and securing holding fixtures, cutting tools, and attachments, accessories, and materials on CNC machines.
Calculating and setting controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth, and angle of grind, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
Setting up and operating machines on trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data in accordance with setup time parameters.
2. Ensures all parts are to the required specifications by:
Maintaining and improving the quality of parts produced.
Studying blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
Verifying conformance of finished work piece specifications.
Complying with all work instructions.
Following and maintaining ISO and Schafer procedures.
Completing Schafer's quality certification requirements for assigned area.
3. Ensure the operational effectiveness of all assigned equipment by:
Starting and observing machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
Installing tooling into machines and equipment and testing operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
Conferring with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining problems.
Responsible for supporting the Schafer Business Process by:
Maintaining and continuously improving productivity of assigned machines.
Measuring, marking, and scribing dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
Continuously looking at tool life and new tooling to cut costs on tools.
Reducing downtime of machines setups
Getting computer setup ready by preparing tooling, fixtures, steel, gages, etc. for jobs at assigned machines.
Maintain the 6S program in assigned area.
Submitting required number of continuous improvement ideas.
5. Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the company by:
Channeling problems and/or complaints to appropriate person for resolution.
Supporting all Schafer policies and procedures.
Reporting to Supervisor when assignments cannot be completed.
Providing input and assistance with the implementation of quality improvement.
Performing other job-related duties as required.
Passing along vital information in the logbook for subsequent shifts.
Training new personnel in the operation of assigned machines.
Assisting and/or training in other Grind areas as needed.

The hourly range for this position is $45,760 ($22/hr) - $48,880 ($23.5/hr). Please note that this compensation information serves as a general guideline. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Set up machines according to specifications and ensure proper alignment and calibration.
Adjust machine settings to achieve desired output and quality.
Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain optimal operation.
Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning and lubricating machines.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise during machine operation.
Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth workflow and efficient production.
