Job Description Our dental hygienist is responsible for providing preventative dental care to patients. They work closely with dentists to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. Reporting to the Dental Manager, and under the supervision of dentists, the hygienist is responsible for a wide range of tasks in the dental clinic, ranging from patient care to administrative duties to laboratory functions. Responsibilities: * Clean teeth and examine patients for signs of oral diseases. * Apply fluorides, sealants or other cavity preventing agents to arrest/prevent dental decay. * Examine gums, using probes to locate periodontal recessed gums and signs of gum disease. * Feel and visually examine gums for sores and signs of disease. * Feel lymph nodes under patient's chin to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate presence of oral cancer. * Take and develop dental x-rays. * Chart conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist. * Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques. * Maintain dental equipment and sharpen and sterilize dental instruments. * Assist dentists with procedures as needed. * Maintain patient records and ensure that they are up-to-date. * Schedule appointments and manage patient flow.
