Principal / Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Research, plan, design, and administer engineering design project applying knowledge of design, construction procedures, zoning and building codes and building materials.
Function as the primary contact coordinating the resolution of problems, reviewing progress, recommending alternatives and advising on project objectives.

About the Torggler
The Mary M. Torggler Fine Arts Center at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia, opened to the public in 2021 and serves the campus and the surrounding community as a dynamic center for the enjoyment, exploration, and study of visual art.
The Torggler is a non-collecting organization that provides compelling art experiences through changing exhibitions and engaging educational programs. Its mission is to serve the campus community and the general public through exceptional visual arts exhibitions and programs that promote creative expression, critical thinking, and cultural dialogue. The Torggler is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.
The Torggler is housed in a new, purpose-built facility featuring an 8,000-square foot main gallery for changing exhibitions, as well as three smaller gallery spaces. The Torggler presents at least three major changing exhibitions in its main gallery each year, featuring the work of professional artists with national or international reputations, in addition to changing shows in the smaller galleries. The building also boasts a stunning atrium capped by cascading glass domes; five studio classrooms for public classes and workshops; a 150-seat lecture hall; an interactive gallery for children (coming in 2026); and a gallery devoted to the work of local and regional artists. The building also houses the university's Department of Art and Art History.

Merrick & Company is seeking a mid-level Structural Designer to work on a variety of projects for multiple market sectors - primarily industrial oil & gas, power plant and biofuel facilities as well as Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Energy (DOE). This is a full-time position and can be located in our Greenwood Village, CO; Tulsa, OK; or Richmond, VA offices.
Pay range for this position is $32.00 - $42.00 per hour. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
* Demonstrate competentcy in 3-dimensional (3D) modeling of steel structures, foundations and equipment using AutoCAD based software.
* Produce structural plans, elevations, sections, and details for steel and concrete structures.
* 3-dimensional (3D) modeling using AutoCAD.
* 2-dimensional (2D) building layouts and detailing using AutoCAD.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Responsible for the day-to-day activities of assigned personnel on the assembly, installation and repair of pipes, fittings, and fixtures of fire protection sprinkler systems. In addition to supervisory responsibility, this position is that of a working foreman, responsible for directly performing a wide range of skilled construction tasks.
Essential Functions:
* Manage labor and materials to ensure the assigned tasks meet or beat budgets for each
* Tracks hours and manpower on all tasks
* Provides training in areas needing improvements to ensure quality, production, and safety
* Responsible for performing a wide range of skilled construction tasks
* Attends, as needed, all job site and office meetings related to assigned projects
* Interprets company policy for workers and enforces safety regulations
* Provides guidance and direction to crews in meeting budgets and project schedule
* Ability to manage installation fitters and helpers at job site
* Ability to interpret blueprints and architectural drawings
* Responsible for installation of wet, cpvc, and steel systems in commercial and industrial buildings

* Must be available, and have the means to report to multiple job sites as assigned
