Overview

The RT will work at our Joplin location in the Asthma/Allergy and Pulmonary clinic

Part-time - 32 hours per pay period - Flexibility is required

The purpose of this position is to assist with the technical and clinical matters pertaining to the pulmonary lab. This includes performing diagnostic patient testing according to the guidelines established; assisting in the development of continuous Quality Improvement standards; scheduling patient care activities; communicating with patients and their families to ensure that they have a positive hospital experience.

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $25.63/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

This position is not eligible work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children's Mercy locations and may not work from home.

The Nutrition Technician provides paraprofessional support to Registered Dietitians in assisting with the provision of clinical nutrition care. Specific responsibilities include the provision of technical functions in the implementation of nutrition care, including screening for nutritional risk, gathering pertinent data, following up on low nutrition risk patients, calculating and documenting nutrient intakes, collecting and modifying menus, communicating diet and menu information to patients, and problem-solving at the Nursing Unit level. All work is performed under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian in accordance with hospital and departmental policies.

Essential Functions

+ Assists patients with menu selections; retrieves menus from patients.

+ Conducts analysis of calorie and nutritional data on patients; calculates data and documents information in the medical record, communicates relevant information to Dietitian.

+ Coordinates details of patient nutritional care, including meal and nourishment service for the assigned Nursing Units.

+ Explains purpose of modified diets and orients the patient to the meal/menu service.

+ Interviews and screens patients for nutritionally relevant data such as diet history, food preferences, food intolerances, food allergies, and other pertinent nutrition related information to determine nutrition needs and

make referrals to the Registered Dietitian as appropriate.

+ Modifies menus according to physician diet order, dietitian instructions, and departmental procedures.

+ Performs nutritional screening per department protocol; collects data and reports to Dietitian.

+ Monitors nutritional status in low to moderate risk patients and communicates change in status to RD. Provides patient/family education for modified diets and/or special formulas as assigned. Ensures education is family centered, culturally sensitive, and developmentally appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university.

License: Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR) or Nutrition/Dietetic Technician, Registered (NDTR) from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics' Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Performs a wide variety of technical radiologic procedures using standard, portable, and/or specialized x-ray equipment to apply an appropriately determined amount of ionizing radiation in order to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patient's illness and injuries.
