Meet Sandra Karamitelios: RecruitLoop Recruiter In Brisbane, Australia

Over the last few weeks, the RecruitLoop Recruiter Spotlight has been shining brightly over the US of A … from Houston, to Seattle and over to Los Angeles.

Today we’re taking it back ‘Down Under’ and beaming in on Brisbane … or as the locals like to call it ‘BrisVegas’ (or ‘Brisneyland’!) where you will find the delightful Sandra Karamitelios.

There must be something in that Queensland water that produces awesome recruiters who have a passion for motor sports – in Sandra’s case it’s motor cycles!

But getting back to her ‘recruitment awesomeness’, Sandra has nearly 20 years’ recruitment experience and has placed top talent for organisations right across Australia and New Zealand not only in every major city, but also in many regional centres.

Let’s find out a bit more about her.

How long have you been a part of the RecruitLoop community?

Since September 2014 – I had been looking around for a way to meet the changing market needs where I could take my 18 years recruitment experience and work within new industry sectors.

What were you doing before you met us?

Running my own recruitment agency for 13 years focusing on generalist roles across the office sector.

I have recruited permanent, temporary and contract roles across the accounting, marketing, HR, administration, project and customer service markets.

What is the best part, for you, of being a Looper?

Flexibility to work on a range of recruitment assignments that I would normally not invest my time in as they are niche and specialised.

Working with clients almost as their internal recruiter takes away the sales pressure; clients see me for the skill I bring to their business not as someone trying to sell them a candidate for a large fee. This generates a new level of interaction and increases trust between me and the hiring manager very quickly.

The community of recruiters is also a great resource. We are able to access market advice and new ideas from around the world.

What RecruitLoop feature do you think is the most awesome?

The transparency of costs to the client is the main feature. Clients can see where their project is up to at any time.

The online portal allows my clients to easily access the data I’ve uploaded in regards to resumes/interviews etc., this gives them complete flexibility on how they manage their time whilst recruiting.

There are many other features which add value to the process – video interviews save the client a lot of time and the advertising reach with our branding is a great add on.

I also really like the fact that as a RecruitLoop recruiter I can literally work from anywhere … trackside at the MotoGP, from a café in the Greek Islands, or of course from my own home office!

Why do you believe the RecruitLoop model works so well?

The RecruitLoop model allows any employer to have access to highly skilled recruiters. It brings huge cost savings to clients that would not normally invest in a professional recruitment project.

The ability to design the process around each client is truly unique.

Whilst my traditional background has never been to “sell” candidates, it is often the perception the market puts onto an agency recruiter. Removing this ‘tag’ means open communication is immediate. Working as an internal resource gives me the ability to truly see my clients’ business needs.

What are your passions and interests outside work?

I absolutely love motorcycle riding – road riding with friends and MotoGP. I also really enjoy travelling and spoiling my granddaughter, and I’m also planning to spoil a grandson who is due in November this year!

What is something other Loopers may not know about you?

I’ve ridden the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina, USA and met a lovely policeman who believed my story about confusing kilometres with miles when it came to ‘supposedly’ exceeding the speed limit!

What 5 words would your clients use to describe you?

Direct, resourceful, down to earth, detail oriented, professional … and quite possibly modest!

If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?

The distribution of wealth – this 80/20 situation we have now doesn’t work.

If you could have dinner with five famous people (alive or dead) who would they be and why?

This is a difficult question for me, I admire a lot of different people for different reasons but I think every day people are the most interesting.

But I wouldn’t say no to a dinner invitation from Valentino Rossi!
