Key Responsibilities:

What you'll Need To Succeed:
Must be currently enrolled in a full-time engineering degree program and returning to the program after the completion of the internship
Comfortable commuting to and working onsite at S&C Electric HQ in Rogers Park, Chicago IL.
Ability to work Full-Time in Summer 2025 for a minimum of 10 weeks.
Demonstrated skills in effective problem-solving and communication across all levels
Basic understanding of supplier quality, production, and process controls.
Basic understanding of various manufacturing technologies and methods.
Familiarity with quality management system tools, APQP, and continuous improvement tools from Lean and Six Sigma Management Systems is a plus.
Strong collaboration, influencing, negotiation & conflict resolution skills.
Comfortable using mechanical, electrical, and electronic inspection tools & equipment.
Excellent skills in data analysis and data management using Excel, Access, or other PC platform software.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to team members at all levels of the organization

A structural engineering intern is generally a student looking to gain experience in a professional setting during summer, a non-academic semester, or a part of a university-sponsored co-op program. The candidate will gain experience under the direct supervision of the firm's engineering professionals. This role provides structural engineering support for project teams and other engineering-related activities.
Assist more experienced Engineers in broader Engineering activities
Assist in the analysis of project data
Prepare materials for presentations or client meetings
Assist with project research
Perform basic calculations by hand or using computer software as directed
Assist with quantity and cost estimates
Assist with field work under the directions of others
Assist with construction administration activities, including preparing responses to RFI's, review of shop drawings and submittals
Document research and field investigations
Prepare sketches and drawings by hand or using various types of CADD design software
Work with the Technology Development team in the development of design templates and other process-related programming
Job Requirements
Must be motivated and have a strong desire to learn engineering skills related to structural engineering projects.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong working knowledge of MS Office programs (e. g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Knowledge of basic structural engineering theories and principles
Experience with modeling/drafting software (Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD) is required
Ability to communicate concepts and ideas to others effectively
Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness

Summer Internship Program Overview
The Summer Internship Program is open to applicants who are planning careers in architecture, structural & sustainable engineering, urban planning, graphic design, or interior design. Spend the summer learning from experts in all of our design disciplines, building your design and visualization skills and contributing to world class design projects. Summer Interns participate in a wide range of in-person and virtual learning opportunities and events.

Desired skills and expertise
Current student in an accredited bachelor's program or master's degree program in architecture, engineering or environmental building design or related field of study and returning to school in the Fall of 2026.
Strong design capabilities as demonstrated in portfolio or work samples.
Some experience in sustainable design practice.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino and visualization software. Experience in energy modeling, human comfort study, daylighting analysis, glare study, water calculations, thyroid party sustainability certifications (examples: E-Plus, DOE-2 (eQuest), IES Virtual Environment or other detailed hourly simulation.)
Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively.
