The Estimator's job is to determine the projected costs of a project (new or existing), including materials, labor, equipment, and time. They analyze project plans, specifications, and requirements to develop detailed budgets and estimates for clients and internal project teams. The Estimator in Training works closely with our Estimator to learn how to effectively diagnose and prepare all estimates for repair in an accurate, thorough, and profitable manner according to insurance partner and company guidelines. Additionally, the Estimator Apprentice is responsible for communicating the value Gerber provides, resulting in a high closed sales ratio.
Key Job Responsibilities
Ensure consistent execution of WOW (Wow Operating Way) plan.
Greets customer at repair drop off and builds rapport.
Maps damage with customer (previous, current loss, WOW opportunities).
Handles repair mapping, takes initial photographs. Uploads photos and notes to CCC One, along with arrival time, etc.
Notifies production that vehicle has arrived and places in production queue. Verifies estimate during teardown.
Finalizes estimate using proper Repair Planning Template.
Works with repair team to make sure notations on windshield are correct and complete. Puts together final parts list.
Uses Promise Date Caculator to set promise date. Calls customer to review estimate and promise date.
Updates customer regularly (with frequency, according to standards determined by management).
Participates in and contributes to the regularly scheduled production meetings.
Calls customers whose cars will be completed the next day. Schedules with customer.
Follow up with technicians after vehicle tear down and make adjustments to estimate if needed.
Assist insurance adjusters with damage reports, etc., and provide service to insurance claim re-inspectors.
Education and/or Experience Required
High school diploma/GED required.
Prior customer service experience.
Must currently possess or successfully complete 16 I-CAR units within the first 12 months of employment.
Preferred: 4-6 years related work experience. Photo-imaging software experience preferred.
Required Skills/Abilities
Excellent communication skills.
Computer literate. Knowledge of Microsoft products is preferred.
Good decision-making ability and sound judgment.
Other Requirements
Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, kneel and crouch in providing an accurate estimate of a vehicle's damage.

Summary:
Fessler and Bowman is responsible for successful bidding of projects, from the initial bid review and analysis through the hand-off from the Estimating Team to the Project Management Team. The Senior Estimator is responsible for all aspects of the estimating function, including bid analysis, plan review, quantity take offs, subcontractor pricing collection, putting together bid information, and assessment of both winning and losing bids. The descriptions below are representative of, but not limited to, the duties and responsibilities of this position.
Five Key Roles of the Senior Estimator:
* Developing innovative, accurate estimates consistent with Fessler and Bowman's costs
* Conducts a thorough and detailed project take-off, assembling all quantities, man hour requirements, etc.
* Solicits subcontractor and supplier pricing, reviewing prequalification requirements, and determining the best qualified subcontractors
* Identifies project-specific risk issues and the potential impact to Fessler and Bowman, as well as potential strategies to help mitigate those risks
* Reviews project plans and specifications and communicates with project stakeholders and internal resources to confirm the scope of the project
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
* Collaborating with the Director of Estimating to help lead and develop the Estimating Team through mentoring
* Developing the project plan, the project schedule and the proposal documents for all estimates
* Reviews estimates for other estimating team members
* Supports the determination of whether to pursue a project by participating in the "Go/No-Go" process on complex projects
* Creates complete project budgets once a project is being actively bid
* Assembles documentation and prepares client presentations for proposal submissions
* Other relevant duties as assigned
Education, Experience & Qualifications:
* Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent combination of education and experience
* At least seven (7) years of construction experience
* Proficient in using Bid2Win estimating software or similar tool(s)
