    Title: Director of Operations Reports to: Senior Director of Finance exalt is a 20-year-old nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming outcomes for court-involved youth through an integrated model of education, paid internships, court advocacy, and alumni support. Serving hundreds of young people annually across NYC-and expanding statewide to Syracuse-exalt is entering its next phase of growth, infrastructure building, and national field leadership. Position Summary The Director of Operations is a strategic, senior operational leader responsible for ensuring that exalt's internal systems, processes, and infrastructure effectively support a growing, multi-site organization. This role partners closely with executive leadership and department heads to translate strategy into efficient, compliant, and sustainable operations. This role goes beyond day-to-day execution-it builds organizational capacity by strengthening systems, clarifying workflows, improving compliance and risk management, and enabling teams to deliver excellent programming at scale. Key Responsibilities Operational Strategy & Infrastructure Lead and continuously improve core operational systems across HR operations, facilities, IT coordination, compliance, and internal processes Build and maintain scalable operational infrastructure to support multi-site growth (both in NYC, through real estate acquisition, and Syracuse, through rental or lease agreement) Develop dashboards, routines, and operational cadences that improve decision-making and accountability Policies, Compliance & Risk Management Oversee organizational policies, internal controls, and operational risk management practices Ensure operational compliance across key areas (e.g., safety protocols, HR-related process compliance, vendor/contract requirements, site readiness) Identify operational risks early and implement preventive systems and standard operating procedures Cross-Functional Operations & Process Improvement Strengthen cross-functional workflows and promote collaboration between departments (Program, Finance, Development, People/HR, etc.) Lead process improvement initiatives (mapping processes, simplifying approvals, documenting standard operating procedures, training staff) Support organizational change management during periods of growth, new systems adoption, and evolving structure In partnership with the Development team, support planning and execution of events hosted at exalt's office and the annual gala, including logistical coordination, vendor management, and day-of operational support. We fulfill this mission by providing a cohesive, cohort-based educational internship program with four components: 1) a proprietary curriculum based classroom component 2) paid internships in youths' fields of interest; 3) post-internship education and career development services; and 4) an alumni network that provides ongoing access to resources. exalt partners with criminal justice agencies and schools to serve 400 court-involved youth, ages 15-19, annually. Job Summary The Adjunct Teacher is an exciting part-time opportunity within exalt. The Adjunct Teacher facilitates a pre-internship preparation course using a curriculum that connects employability skills, educational engagement, and justice system avoidance to four core competencies: critical thinking, communication, creative problem-solving, and resource management. Central to exalt's curriculum is a Freire-inspired critical pedagogical approach that validates and builds upon participants' lived experiences, cultures, skills, and interests while reinforcing discipline and accountability. This approach inspires youth to internalize the four core skills and apply them to decision-making across school environments, interactions with peers or law enforcement, and professional settings that present opportunity. The Adjunct Teacher will teach and lead 1-2 class cycles per year, as requested by exalt. Each cycle includes the following phases: Orientation - Sets expectations and introduces exalt's youth development and pedagogical approach 6-Week Pre-Internship Training Phase - Classes meet 2 hours per day, Monday-Thursday 8-Week Internship Phase - Classes meet 2 hours on Fridays 1-Week Post-Internship Phase - Classes meet 2 hours per day, Monday-Thursday Graduation Event Classes consist of 17-25 youth, ages 15-19. Adjunct Teachers lead classes in person from 4:30-6:30 pm. Teachers must arrive at exalt headquarters no later than 3:00 pm and remain after class from 6:30-7:00 pm for debriefs and one-on-one student follow-up as needed.
