The FSQA manager works directly with processing plant operations shift manager and independently with limited oversight from FSQC manager to ensure compliance with Foster Farms, FSIS/USDA, and customer requirements on assigned shift. Directs, oversees, and implements the Food Safety and Product Quality (FSQC) programs for a specific Foster Farms food manufacturing site to ensure product safety, legality, and quality across multiple plant processes including first processing and second processing for both retail and food service operations. Responsible for the management and development of supervisory and/or hourly FSQC personnel to achieve departmental goals. This position is intended as developmental training for further FSQC Manager responsibilities. It involves tactical supervision of a large team of employees and FSQC programs, but also more strategic activities and independent decision-making than a Supervisor or Assistant Manager position. This position has the authority to release or retain product on hold for quality or regulatory concerns, thus sound judgment in rendering a product as wholesome or unwholesome is required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* At assigned food manufacturing facility, responsible for the implementation, verification, and validation of Food Safety programs such as HACCP plans, SSOP compliance, ensuring adherence with audit standards such as BRC and managing regulatory relationship with local USDA/FSIS.
* Ensure operations management team and hourly employees are compliant with food safety and quality procedures. This includes direct observation of processes, as well as training as needed of production, sanitation, maintenance and quality control groups.
* Manage the implementation, maintenance, evaluation, and enforcement of FSIS/USDA regulations, as well as corporate programs (pest control, allergen, product quality). These monitoring programs have both legal (FSIS requirements) and customer implications.
* Pursuant to monitoring results, address processing, sanitation and maintenance-related issues in a timely manner via FSQC/Operations combined approach.
* This position is authorized to place non-conforming product on FSQC hold if it does not meet Foster Farms standards, customer expectations, or legal requirements. In addition, this position has authority to render decisions regarding product disposition, including release or disposal of product.
* Hire and lead procedural, regulatory and food safety training for FSQC supervisors and hourly technicians to ensure high levels of competency, commitment and performance. Promote a food safety culture with FSQC supervisors and hourly employees. Additionally, manage same employees' schedules and timecards to ensure adequate coverage, while minimizing overtime. When necessary, execute disciplinary action for undesirable performance.
* Work in conjunction with plant management staff to maintain a positive working relationship with in-plant FSIS/USDA personnel. This includes direct communications and meetings with FSIS to report non-compliance resolution, as well as Foster Farms response to trending concerns.
* Manage and improve the FSQC data reporting systems, communicating trends and root-cause analysis to senior management for deficiency resolution and process improvement.
* Actively participate in projects (FSQC or operations) and activities to modify, retrofit and improve performance from a food safety and/or quality perspective.
Requirements:
* Bachelors degree from a 4-year, accredited college or university, preferably in the area of animal science, food science or biological sciences
* Proficient use of Microsoft including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
* Requisite - 5 years of work experience in food processing environment with food safety/quality programs focus
* Previous experience with HACCP, SSOP programs, and/or FSIS food safety regulations is preferred.
* Detail oriented with analytical aptitude; exposure to Statistical Process Control is beneficial
* Strong writing and presentation skills
* Bilingual in Spanish is preferred, but not required
* Ability to make decisions following hierarchical chain of command in regards to product disposition decisions

General Purpose:
Performs laboratory tests (chemical, physical, organoleptic, and microbiological) according to prescribed standards on in-process and finished food products and ingredients in a food production laboratory. Makes decisions based on test results for compliance to specifications, when additional evaluations are necessary, and when products cannot ship to customers. Conducts quality assurance inspections as needed. Works closely with production staff to ensure quality and food safety during manufacturing.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment such as dairy analyzer, NIR analyzer, microwave, pH meter, chloride analyzer, scales, autoclave, thermometers, etc. and perform simple repairs as needed
Test and evaluate In-Process and Finished products for moisture, fat, salt, and pH or other components utilizing lab equipment
Test and evaluate Finished cheese products for body, texture, organoleptic, and performance characteristics over the shelf life of the product, including pizza melt tests
Evaluate ingredient, product, and packaging compliance to internal and customer specifications, determining acceptability
Collect various samples from different locations and environments throughout the plant, following aseptic sampling techniques
Prepare samples for micro testing, interpret and report results
Accurately and promptly record test results on standardized forms, computer database, SAP or LIM systems. Release batches and complete other transactions within these systems
Work with the plant "Hold and Release" program to ensure potential issues are identified and products are held pending further evaluations
Communicate test results to production staff and assist in developing and documenting corrective actions
Alert management staff to issues that require immediate action, utilizing authority to halt production activities for Food Safety related issues when necessary
Conduct inspections of the production and packaging areas and assist department supervisors in monitoring Food Safety, Quality, and GMP compliance
Monitor sanitation, inspect equipment and take swabs to determine that cleaning methods are effective
Act as the first point of contact, answering the phones in a professional manner during non-business hours

To receive, prepare, and sort eggs for the purpose of setting a higher quality egg pack to the incubators. Prepare supplies and load backhauls ensuring clean supplies and maximizing backhaul ratio. Maintain accurate inventories ensuring oldest eggs set first. Operate the Automatic Rack Transfer machine in a safe manner while maximizing efficiencies.
Clean and disinfect buildings and equipment so that each will pass quality control bacterial level standards. Pull hatcher racks, load chicks onto the separator, grade chicks, operate hatcher basket stackers and palletize serviced chicks. Transfer eggs from incubators through In-Ovo injection equipment to hatchers while minimizing breakage and temperature shock to developing embryos.
Prepare egg sets using Automatic Rack Transfer machine and SST pallets or from other types of supplies, by hand or with vacuum operated egg shifter. Prepare egg supplies-build clean SST pallets of flats to backhaul height. Load onto trucks with pallet jack. Receive eggs from Colorado, Arkansas, and outside purchase. Unload and ready these eggs for traying. Unload eggs using a mechanical or power jack.
Responsible for using high pressure hose to clean and disinfect buildings and equipment (i.e., hatcher rooms, hatcher trays, hatcher racks, egg flats, hatching machines, set hall, and tray wash room).
Pull hatcher racks, load chicks onto the separator, and palletize serviced chicks. Rack pulling. Transport hatcher racks full of chicks to the service area. Ensure proper operation of spray vaccination machine. Grade chicks for quality.
Transfer scheduled eggs from incubators through the In-Ovo injection equipment to the
Proper hatcher. Using power/garden hose and equipment-cleaning cart sanitize equipment and rooms after transfer. Responsible for removing broken and/or highly contaminated eggs from hatcher trays.
Qualifications
Ability to repeatedly lift 60 lbs. To a height of 60”.

* Assist in maintaining the ranch facilities and equipment for optimal usage and good appearance: arranging with the maintenance department for needed materials and service calls. Follow, assist and enforce to maintain strict sanitation conditions and disease protection procedures, and being constantly aware of the bird's health. Job Description
Pay Rate: $17.20 per hour.
(Additional $1.00 per hour for hours worked between 7:00pm and 11:59pm. Additional $2.00 per hour for hours worked between 12:00am-4:59am)
Must be able to work weekends.
To receive, prepare, and sort eggs for the purpose of setting a higher quality egg pack to the incubators. Prepare supplies and load backhauls ensuring clean supplies and maximizing backhaul ratio. Maintain accurate inventories ensuring oldest eggs set first. Operate the Automatic Rack Transfer machine in a safe manner while maximizing efficiencies.
Clean and disinfect buildings and equipment so that each will pass quality control bacterial level standards. Pull hatcher racks, load chicks onto the separator, grade chicks, operate hatcher basket stackers and palletize serviced chicks. Transfer eggs from incubators through In-Ovo injection equipment to hatchers while minimizing breakage and temperature shock to developing embryos.
Prepare egg sets using Automatic Rack Transfer machine and SST pallets or from other types of supplies, by hand or with vacuum operated egg shifter. Prepare egg supplies-build clean SST pallets of flats to backhaul height. Load onto trucks with pallet jack. Receive eggs from Colorado, Arkansas, and outside purchase. Unload and ready these eggs for traying. Unload eggs using a mechanical or power jack.
Responsible for using high pressure hose to clean and disinfect buildings and equipment (i.e., hatcher rooms, hatcher trays, hatcher racks, egg flats, hatching machines, set hall, and tray wash room).
Pull hatcher racks, load chicks onto the separator, and palletize serviced chicks. Rack pulling. Transport hatcher racks full of chicks to the service area. Ensure proper operation of spray vaccination machine. Grade chicks for quality.
Transfer scheduled eggs from incubators through the In-Ovo injection equipment to the
Proper hatcher. Using power/garden hose and equipment-cleaning cart sanitize equipment and rooms after transfer. Responsible for removing broken and/or highly contaminated eggs from hatcher trays.
Qualifications
Ability to repeatedly lift 60 lbs. To a height of 60”.
Ability to move1,500 lb. Rack (on wheels) through rooms.
Ability to meet company pallet jack and/or forklift licensing requirements.
Ability to disinfect equipment and rooms safely and effectively.
Must adhere to disease control program.
Ability to bend, stoop, and reach above head.
Ability to operate disinfectant equipment as well as tray washer.
Ability to work in a wet environment with temperature ranges.
Basic math skills.
