At Capital Prep, we love teachers and refer to them as Illuminators. Each of our Illuminators are dedicated to providing students with an enriching and invigorating educational experience. With a focus on academic rigor and achievement, we expect our staff to collaborate, problem-solve, and commit 100% to our students’ success.

Capital Prep Illuminators will report directly with students who have Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and also students in need of academic intervention.

Our illuminator’s are committed to teaching and learning that promotes the success of every student and work closely with the Capital Prep team in:

• Creating a safe and enjoyable educational environment that encompasses our social justice model and that ensures every graduate moves on to attend college;
• Providing individualized instruction and enrichment opportunities for students to ensure that gifted students are challenged and struggling students are supported;
• Hiring and growing quality teachers and leaders and empowering them to use their craft to inspire students to achieve at the highest levels.

Teacher responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Student achievement and culture building

• Create a safe, effective, student-centered learning environment that fosters student curiosity;
• Motivate students to put forth their best efforts in academics, athletics, activities, and personal conduct;
• Support students to recognize their full potential in all areas of human development;
• Build a bridge of communication and involvement with parents, families, and community leaders;
• Analyze data and use it to inform and drive instruction.

Professional development and learning

• Attend all professional development trainings, data team meetings, and curriculum meetings;
• Collaborate with peers and school leaders to improve instructional strategies, school climate, and leadership skills;
• Participate in professional trainings to enhance knowledge as well as educational and leadership capabilities.

General Education Instructors are required to meet the standards of ACCSC as they relate to Associate of Occupation Studies degrees or are currently recognized by ACCSC as a General Education Instructor.

+ Help students realize their dreams by organizing and delivering class objectives in a clear, concise manner; maintaining an orderly, controlled, and safe environment for our students in classrooms and labs; ensuring training aids, tools, and equipment are maintained and prepared for use in the classroom and lab; supervising and holding students accountable while promoting learning, participation, motivation, and professionalism; testing, evaluating, and communicating performance and progress with students, supervisors, and other departments in a timely and accurate manner; and maintaining curriculum accuracy by keeping up-to-date on the industry.

Education / Experience

+ Meet the ACCSC General Education Instructor requirements below or are currently recognized as a General Education Instructor for Programs offered by Universal Technical Institute.

ACCSC Requirements include:

+ + Baccalaureate degree with appropriate coursework in the subject area(s) taught and three years related practical work experience or eight years related practical work experience and college level coursework in the subject area(s) taught.

Reporting directly to the campus Academic Dean and/or University Chair of General Education, the Instructor I, General Education supports the University in fulfillment of its mission, purpose and goals. Creates an educational environment which fosters innovation, responsiveness, and accountability. Provides professional leadership and support, and serves as an educator, role model, mentor and facilitator. Focuses extensively on facilitating student learning associated with prescribed course and program learning outcomes. Provides program-specific expertise and is actively engaged in relevant department initiatives. Supports University, campus, and/or departmental goals in order to assure compliance with programmatic accreditation and/or licensure, internal consistency, and graduate outcomes that meet student learning, workplace and placement expectations. Actively and substantively participates in assessment of student learning activities at the course and prog5ram level to maximize the potential for students to learn what is necessary to meet prescribed outcomes. Vigorously upholds a culture of academic integrity.

INSTRUCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Fulfills assigned teaching load.
* Consistently follows the master course syllabus.
* Effectively uses the LMS to supplement instruction (i.e., adaptive learning and flipping the classroom).
* Participates in and contributes substantively to course and program level assessment activities via a continuous improvement plan as set forth by General Education and/or the University.
* Regularly contributes to improvement of course materials and syllabi within prescribed shared governance culture.
* Consistently employs a variety of teaching methodologies to instruct students always with intent to facilitate observable evidence of student fulfillment of prescribed learning outcomes.
* Ensures that all laboratory safety protocols and procedures are followed.
* Demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and the teaching/learning process and for individual students.
* Keeps regular approved office hours (for FT faculty).
* Follows established University protocols for providing timely feedback and/or academic advising (i.e., Grades in Progress, student Letters of Concern, etc.).
* Experienced and competent teaching skills as demonstrated by:
* student evaluations
* peer evaluations if assigned
* self-evaluation
* administration reviews
* evidence of documented student achievement of course student learning outcomes

* Attends professional development activities each year as agreed upon with supervisor in associate development plan.
* Attends teaching development activities each year as assigned by supervisor to enhance teaching/learning skills.
* Attends all-faculty meetings twice per year (for full time faculty attendance is required, for adjunct faculty attendance is strongly recommended.

GENERAL SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Records and posts daily class attendance and grades as required, completes and submits assignments in a timely manner, and grades tests, quizzes, lab assignments promptly, returning constructive feedback to students as soon as possible. Engages in systematic collection of student's work for University outcomes assessment purposes.

EDUCATION:

* Master's degree in specialty field required.
* If applicable, certification(s) in area(s) of specialization required.
* Must provide a documented background in educational methodology consistent with teaching assignments including but not limited to education theory and practice, or current concepts relative to specific subjects he or she will be teaching, or current clinical practice experience, or distance education techniques and delivery.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

* Two or more years' experience (minimum of 30 teaching credits of instruction, or 10 3-unit courses or equivalent) in teaching in a university or college setting required.
