Job Responsibilities Consistently shows up for work as scheduled Initially trains under higher-level geotechnical engineers until able to perform engineering and materials testing tasks without assistance and supervision Drives to project locations Serves as onsite project representative Assists project manager(s) with client communications Assists in the analysis of engineering reports and data Authors draft reports for review by supervisor Manages/directs drilling and sampling activities including logging boring holes Assigns and tracks progress of lab testing Inputs field and lab data into computer program Prepares design calculations and cost estimates Assists in the preparation and modification of reports by others Promptly notifies supervisor, project manager(s) of problems or changes that arise on projects Answers calls from supervisor, project manager(s) as soon as can reasonably be expected and, if unable to answer immediately, returns calls at first opportunity Completes tasks and submits completed paperwork within appropriate time frame Helps mentor Level I Staff EngineersAdheres to established safety procedures Performs other tasks as necessary

As a Staff Consultant for Civil & Environmental Consultants Inc. (CEC) geotechnical group, you'll be responsible for geotechnical subsurface investigations related to site civil and landfill design (building foundations, cut and fill slopes, retaining walls, landslides, and pavements), as well as construction materials testing services for commercial and landfill projects. You will coordinate or monitor subsurface drilling, obtain soil and rock samples, prepare boring logs, develop laboratory testing programs, interpret laboratory data, perform geotechnical analyses and prepare detailed geotechnical reports. Projects will primarily be for commercial, retail, institutional, energy, and industrial clients. This role will also include construction materials testing and project duties will include concrete, foundation, masonry and pavement construction testing.

+ B.S. in Civil Engineering, specializing in Geotechnical Engineering (M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering preferred).
+ 0-5 years of consulting Geotechnical Engineering experience.

+ Ability to speak and write professionally.

+ Highly motivated, self-starter with the desire to learn quickly and succeed professionally.

As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will bring your expertise and unique solutions to highly visible and challenging projects. You will also work in a team of dedicated Project Managers, Principals and other Engineers. Responsibilities
• Participate or lead field assignments including observation of geotechnical explorations.
• Participate in construction observation and material testing.
• Performing geotechnical analyses including bearing capacity evaluations, stability evaluations, and seepage analyses.
• Preparing field reports and engineering calculation packages.
• Prepare technical specifications, design drawings, and construction submittals for compliance with contract requirements and design assumptions.
• Review and assist with assigning field and laboratory soil and material testing
• Communicating effectively and efficiently with contractors, clients and team members.
• Work Environment may require regular exposure to ALL outside weather conditions, moderate to loud noise conditions, exposure to heights. Lifting weights of up to 75 lbs. for field density testing.
• Some weekend and overtime work may be required; some limited overnight and interstate travel may be required with this position.
Qualifications
• 0-3 years' experience.
• Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline is required with Civil Engineering being preferred.
• EIT certification or ability to obtain is required.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, REVIT, and other CAD platforms is a plus.
• Experience or academic training with geotechnical software such as, SEEP/W, SLOPE/W, SETTLE3D, L-Pile, is preferred.
• Soils laboratory experience is a plus.
• Following certifications a plus: Nuclear Density Gauge Operator; American Concrete Institute (ACI) Level I Inspector; and/or Related certifications from ICC.
• Candidate must have consistent means of transportation to/from project sites and a valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
• Drug testing may be required.
