PRIMARY RELATIONSHIPS
The Technician:
Reports to the facility management and serves as a member of the clinic team.
Interacts daily with veterinarians, LVT's, veterinary student externs, animal care and intake staff, volunteers, the general public, and potential adopters.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Humanely handles and kennels all animals and ensures the identification of all shelter animals with appropriate tags or bands before kenneling.
Develops a general knowledge of animals' behaviors, temperaments and personality traits.
Assists with daily observations of medical and behavioral issues of animals in our care by paying careful attention for signs of sickness, stress, aggressive behavior, and/or injury. Reports findings to supervisor and medical staff.
Maintains records to ensure accuracy, timeliness and completeness.
Checks and maintains supplies and equipment. Communicates inventory and supply needs as well as maintenance issues to supervisor. Stocks needed supplies in respective areas.
Must handle, restrain, and triage all animals entering the shelter.
Assists in the medication and medical treatment of animals as prescribed by the veterinarian as requested.
Oversee preparation of animals for adoption regarding health exams and inoculations.
Assist in the maintaining and medical treatment of illness throughout the shelter.
Consistently strives to stay well-informed of the field and animal welfare issues, techniques, procedures and equipment.
Works side by side with Licensed Veterinarian Technician to make sure the safety guidelines and protocols are met to ensure a safe environment
Takes immediate action to address any safety concern or noncompliance of safety rules
Maintains a high level of communication with all GBHS staff and Volunteers.
Works collaboratively with staff to determine if animals are appropriate for adoption.
Assists with and/or conducts humane euthanasia.
Represents the GBHS in a professional manner in all situations.
Shall perform other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Two years or more working under a Veterinarian as a Veterinary Technician.
General knowledge of pharmaceutical medications.
General knowledge of Veterinary terminology.
Experience in animal handling and phlebotomy.
QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Ability to work well in a team environment

Assists in cleaning, sanitizing, and storing of crates and equipment
Works compassionately with injured and mistreated animals
Ensures the comfort and cleanliness of all animals on the adoption floor
Ensures animal areas are clean and orderly and stocked with food, litter, newspaper and other essential items
Understands basic animal infectious disease and willingness to prevent contagious spread
Documents behavior observations as needed and report them to manager
Documents medical observations immediately
Responsible for maintaining up to date identification cards and neck bands for all animals
Assists in maintaining overall facility cleaning standards
Assists with laundry tasks and general cleaning maintenance on a daily basis
Assists in enrichment and behavior as directed and show compassionate when working with all animals
Works collaboratively and communicates effectively with other members of the adoption team, as well as with other staff
Attends staff meetings and provide constructive feedback
Maintains personal appearance and uniform so as to appear professional at all times
Works closely with GBHS Volunteers in conjunction with the GBHS mission
Observes and follow strict nutrition and medical guidelines per veterinarian as directed
Provides excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders
Provides general information to visiting patrons. For ex. Donors, school tours, general public

QUALIFICATIONS

ADMINISTRATIVE:
Participates in cost control initiatives. Responsible for efficient utilization of medication, laboratory, inventory, supplies and equipment to achieve supply cost goals following all guidelines established in the formularies.
Assists in the development and revision of any applicable policies and procedures for the facility as directed to ensure continuous process improvement.

Coordinates the collection and forwarding of all vendor invoices to the accounting department.
Acts as the Facility Manager in the absence of the manager or at the direction of management.

Acts as the Patient Safety Officer and conducts quarterly patient safety meetings and fire drills.

This job assesses patients and safely performs routine radiographic procedures in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and protocols. Serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

Education

Certifications
Required - Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) OR American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registry eligible, r egistered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within 90 days of employment, and temporary state license required.
Current unrestricted license in the state of practice.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
* Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.
* Strong interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability) and travel throughout and between facilities.
Job Duties
* Verifies physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.
* Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.
* Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
* Independently operates equipment to complete imaging procedure according to protocol (may include placement of nasogastric tubes, IVs, urinary catheters, and administration of contrast).
* Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.
* Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and performing notification/remediation as warranted.
* Assists in the facilitation of departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).
* Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
* Performs other related duties as required.
