You'll work with McKinsey's Healthcare Access, Quality and Outcomes improvement (HALO) domain as part of our Social Sector, Healthcare & Public Sector Entities (SHaPE) practice in one of our offices in North America.
HALO aspires to build solutions, expertise, and capabilities to deliver a comprehensive, end-to-end performance impact to payors (including provider led health plans) and services clients (including investor entities and those that operate like payors and take risk) across affordability, access, quality, and efficiency. Taken together, HALO aspires to improve the performance of healthcare worldwide, by means of these levers and capabilities.
The HALO domain is the combination of an impact-focused, interdisciplinary team and a robust suite of analytics, insights, expertise, and solutions to enable payor transformations. These assets can be rapidly deployed across our clients either directly, or in partnership with other domains (e.g. pharmacy, value-based care, clinical operations). Given this, you will be expected to collaborate both with other HALO colleagues and other SHaPE healthcare areas, as well as the broader global practice of McKinsey consultants and teams. You will also work closely with professional development to ensure the goals of the domain and team experience are closely aligned and play an active role in bringing our people development vision to life.
You will be staffed on client engagements, primarily with national and regional health plans, focused on making healthcare better, more affordable, and more accessible for all.
In this role, you will deliver high-quality outputs to help guide decisions on critical business problems for our clients. These outputs could include strategies to improve affordability/accessibility/quality of healthcare, identified potential opportunity areas in medical / administrative / pharmacy costs, and development of tactical programs and implementation plans, to support execution of the strategies and initiatives you've helped develop. You will actively engage with front-line client teams involved in helping payors improve the quality and cost of healthcare.
You will leverage your expertise to take ownership of tenure-appropriate client relationships and guide clients through appropriate syndication discussions as well as longer-term front-line implementation projects. You will also leverage your project management and client communication skills as you participate in problem-solving sessions with clients and McKinsey leadership.
You will also devote time to creating new knowledge, assets and capabilities for the payor practice in partnership with Healthcare Access, Quality and Outcomes improvement (HALO) leadership.
* Bachelor's degree, advanced degree preferred

The Business Development department leads Bain's global partnership program, comprised of third-party firms that partner with case teams to deliver specialized tools and expertise to clients. WHERE YOU'LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM
The Senior Manager, Business Development (BD) is a critical member of the BD team, responsible for leading defined partnerships in collaboration with BD leadership and a sponsoring Practice or Product team. Responsibility can range from owning a portfolio of partnerships to a single multi-solutions partnership. Building a 'general manager' mindset will be essential for the Senior Manager in order to navigate all aspects of a successful partnership: managing the day-to-day relationships, helping to drive process improvement, working with leadership to align short and long term priorities, identifying high-impact activities, actively participating in/driving commercial activity, and achieving measurable results. WHAT YOU'LL DO
Essential Functions:
Shape Architecture and Technology Strategy
* Lead the definition of enterprise, solution, cloud, and data architectures that align with client business outcomes.
* Develop strategic architecture roadmaps, frameworks, and reference models that enable modernization, integration of AI, and long-term value creation.
* Translate complex technical and business requirements into clear, actionable strategies that clients can adopt and scale.
* Contribute to thought leadership, publications, and community engagement to advance Bain's technology point of view.
* Assess, select, and integrate vendor platforms, fintech solutions, and hyperscaler technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP) into client architectures to maximize business and technology value.

ABOUT YOU
* 15+ years of experience in architecture and technology leadership, with proven ability to shape enterprise, solution, and data architecture strategies.
* Deep expertise in Financial Services (core banking, payments, and modernization) strongly preferred.
* Exceptional candidates with fewer years of experience but outstanding impact in modern architecture and transformation will also be considered.
* Demonstrated track record advising senior business and technology leaders on complex, large-scale transformation programs.
* Strong technical depth in domains such as cloud, data, AI, security, operational resilience, APIs, and event-driven design.
* Mastery of architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, ITABoK) and fluency in modern practices such as cloud-native and AI-enabled architectures.

Compensation for this role includes base salary, annual discretionary performance bonus, 401(k) plan with an annual employer contribution based on years of service and Bain's best in class benefits package (details listed below).

In the states of Illinois, Georgia, and Texas, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is between $168,500 - $206,000. Placement within these ranges will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level
For all other locations, the good-faith, reasonable annualized full-time salary range for this role is commensurate with competitive geographic market rates for this role and will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to experience, education, licensure/certifications, training and skill level.
