Depack Chemist As a Depack Chemist you will be responsible for providing assistance in the coordination and proper disposal of waste materials for Arcwood customers. This position oversees various tasks including collection, segregation, processing and supporting documentation of waste activity. Schedule: Full-time rotating 12-hour shifts. Essential Functions & Requirements: Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and maintaining safe practices at all times Assists in the segregation of chemicals by Department of Transportation (DOT) hazard class and packs/unpacks compatible chemicals into appropriate containers and prepares them for treatment or transport; completes all necessary documentation per job Completes logs and other documentation necessary for tracking and billing purposes Tests compatibility of chemicals prior to consolidating for disposal; combines chemicals in drums or disposes of them directly into treatment tanks Receives shipments of waste materials by unloading drums containing smaller lab packs; reviews packing slips to verify amount and type of waste received Maintains operating areas, walls, pipes, and floors in a clean and safe condition Operates and performs inspections for fork trucks, bobcats with attachments and other Company vehicles as needed Utilizes introductory knowledge of hazardous chemicals, hazardous waste generation, management practices and shipping related procedures Handles hazardous materials and utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed, including boots, gloves, suits, eye/ear protection and a respirator Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization Education: Bachelor's degree (required); science-related discipline (preferred) 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification (preferred) Experience: In lieu of degree 4+ years of related environmental waste experience (required) Prior lab packing experience (preferred) Competencies: Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner Ability to develop a working knowledge of all Federal, State, and local laws and regulations pertaining to the Environmental Services industry including RCRA, DOT, and OSHA Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with internal and external customers Ability to operate required machinery / equipment to perform the duties of the role Strong ability to work independently as well as part of a team Regular and predictable attendance to perform the functions and requirements of this role Benefits, Compensation, & Workforce Diversity: Arcwood offers competitive pay and bonus incentives.
