This is a non-exempt non-benefited position that involves working at a public service desk providing library services related to lending library materials and providing basic computer and printing assistance. Evening and weekend work is required. Work is supervised by the Public Services Supervisor and a Public Services Assistant Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

* Provide courteous and efficient customer service at the circulation desk: Checkout library materials, register patrons, handle routine questions
* Accurately communicate library policies and procedures to the public
* Computer data entry and database maintenance through the library automation system
* Provide directional assistance
* Assist patrons with basic computer and print questions
* Answer telephone calls from public or route appropriately
* Collect fines and fees, accurately key such transactions into a cash register
* Check in and sort materials; accurately route or mail items owned/requested by other libraries
* Magnetize/demagnetize materials
* Monitor security gates
* Availability on a "substitute" basis

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Job Description:

This is a temporary, part-time position reporting to the Executive Director of Library Services. The Library Clerk works primarily at the Macon and Maxine Smith campuses but occasionally at other locations as well. He or she is responsible for the delivery of services to library patrons, maintaining library records, and insuring that library materials are properly arranged. The hours are primarily between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm Monday through Thursday. There are occasional Saturday mornings and as well.

Essential Job Functions:

* Provides assistance to students, faculty and staff.
* Performs circulation duties: check outs, check in, renewals and add new customers.
* Greets customers in a courteous manner.
* Performs shelving and shelf reading to ensure items are in their proper order on the shelves.
* Troubleshoots equipment problems: computers, printer, copier, fax, scanner
* Shelves new periodicals and maintain an orderly display.
* Searches for overdue and missing items.
* Maintains professional and technical skills by participating in staff development programs.
* Assists with collection maintenance: removing damaged items and recommending new titles.
* Assists with the annual inventory of the collection.
* May perform other job duties and works at various locations as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

* Knowledge of modern office machines, methods, and equipment.
* Knowledge of basic filing, indexing, and cross reference methods.
* Knowledge of library automated systems and personal computers.
* Skill in service orientation; actively looking for ways to help people.
* Ability to type accurately from plain copy or rough draft.

The Salary Range for this position is: $10.00 per hour

Kent Memorial Library is seeking a knowledgeable, tech-savvy part-time library clerk with a strong commitment to serving the public. Must have excellent customer service and communication skills to serve a diverse public. Performs a variety of clerical and Library support activities for the Library by assisting patrons and maintaining library materials and records. Serves the residents of Suffield in a customer-oriented manner that helps promote a positive and professional image for the Town Government

*Supervision Received: *

Works under the general direction of Head of Circulation or the Children's Librarian.

*Supervision Exercised: *

None.

*Essential Duties and Responsibilities: *

1. Performs tasks at both the Adult and Children's Circulation desks.

2. Collects materials from the book drop.

3. Checks library materials in and out, noting if they are damaged or have missing parts.

4. Registers patrons for library cards.

5. Prepares books to be shelved; maintains records.

6. Collects fines for overdue and lost materials and other miscellaneous fees (copier, printer).
