Lutheran Homes Of South Carolina company history timeline
The Evangelical Lutheran Charities Society of Charleston first founded Franke at Seaside in 1892 on Calhoun Street in downtown Charleston.
In 1908, the Evangelical Lutheran Charities Society, now known as Lutheran Homes of South Carolina, purchased and renovated the Adger family home with a mission to provide older adults within the area with a safe place to receive care throughout their life.
On March 5, 1990, Lowman Home amended its Certificate of Incorporation to change its name to Lutheran Homes of South Carolina, Inc.
Shortly after that in 1991, the Franke Home, a ministry of the downtown Charleston Lutheran Congregations merged into Lutheran Homes and subsequently relocated to Mount Pleasant.
Lutheran Homes of South Carolina began serving older adults beyond its retirement communities in 1995 when it established Lutheran Hospice.
In 1996, the Franke Home moved to a 42-acre tract within the Seaside Farms development in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
BeWell Home Services began serving older adults who wish to age in place in their own homes in 1996.
By purchasing a peach farm in Inman and breaking ground on Halloween of 1999, RoseCrest would become the answer for many who desired quality residential and healthcare services throughout their retirement.
Opening in 2001, RoseCrest is the fifth retirement community under the Lutheran Homes of South Carolina (LHSC). After opening four previous communities, LHSC wanted to serve the seniors and their families in the upstate.
In 2002, the local advisory board voted to change Franke Home to Franke at Seaside, a better reflection of the vibrant community that remains near South Carolina’s barrier islands and beaches.
BeWell@Home, a program which helps older adults plan for their future care needs, began in 2016.
