Operates and sets up CNC equipment with assistance
Accountable for meeting cycle time and yield expectations.
Sharpens tooling as needed to maintain tolerances
Makes adjustments and monitors assigned equipment to ensure dimensional part integrity
Able to preset tooling for setups and tool breakages during normal operations
Maintains tooling following established tool life guide lines
Deburrs, buffs or sands parts to meet requirements to print specifications
Verifies the revision level for current operations
Verifies documentation and accuracy of completed operations
Inspects parts visually and dimensionally using basic inspection equipment and techniques to assure conformance to requirements with assistance
Completes all applicable documentation for current operations
Required to follow quality procedures to ensure traceability and segregation of materials as required.
Practices 5S principles on a daily basis Perform preventative machine maintenance as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
Minimum Experience: Machinist trade school preferred, or 1 year manufacturing experience preferred.
Special Skills: Ability to work with small precision parts to very close tolerances. Capability to use basic inspection tools and techniques. Capacity to understand and follow through with verbal or written instructions. Aptitude to learn basic shop math.
Specialized Knowledge: Basic knowledge of continuous improvement, GD&T and blue print reading preferred.

**A sign-on Bonus will be awarded to the candidate as follows** :

$1,000 - Tech School with no experience

$2,500 - Tech School graduate with experience in landing gear

$5,000 - Tech School graduate with 2 years of Landing Gear Assembly experience OR 5 years of Landing Gear Assembly Experience (no degree needed)

_Sign on bonuses will be paid out in four increments over 13 months. First installment is paid the first payroll date of the month following four full months of employment in good standing. The remaining payouts will be paid every three months of service until the four payments are complete._

SUMMARY The machine operator will be able to operate all machines in machine shop according to both AAR and government regulations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Run parts as required by work order

+ Run parts in a timely manner

+ Run parts according to AAR regulations.

+ Set up parts in machine.

+ Look at specs.

+ Move part along to next department

+ All other duties as assigned

Primary Purpose of the Position

The Machinist Apprentice will set up and operate conventional, special-purpose, and computer numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic parts, fit and assemble machine parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and layout techniques. They will be technically proficient in the machining trade. They will be self-motivated and proactive in addressing needs and issues. Understand upcoming work and requirements for the work, communicate needs before they impede productions. Maintain dimensional logs for all the work and jobs that go across their machines. And understands the applicable sections of the DMC QC manuals.

Essential Functions / Duties

To assure quality machining of metal parts/assemblies in a timely manner, efficient and safe manner to promote and support the success of SMC

• Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
• Measure, mark and scribe dimensions and references points on material or workpieces as guides for subsequent machining.
• Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, grinders, and shapers.
• Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
• Set up and observes machine operations to detect malfunction or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required
• Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specification, using precision measuring instruments.
• Set up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
• Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges and gauge blocks.
• Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
• Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, or surface tables, hand tools and power tools.
• Develop specifications from general description and draw sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
• Maintain machine (oil, grease) and keep ways clean.

Job Requirements

Education requirements or equivalent experience:

• High School diploma or GED equivalency
• Work experience with shop math proficiency and strong mechanical aptitude is appreciated; basic math skills required
