Job Summary Sets up, adjusts, and operates numeric or computer numeric controlled hobbers, shapers, and shavers, producing a variety of close tolerance gears, splines, and pinions. Proof and edit program tapes. Manually program machining instructions into computer console. Reading blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. Verifying conformance of finished work piece specifications. Complying with all work instructions. Following and maintaining ISO and Schafer procedures. Completing Schafer's quality certification requirements for assigned area. 3. Ensure the operational effectiveness of all assigned equipment by: Conducting all assigned and necessary preventative maintenance procedures. Starting and observing machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. Working with maintenance as needed on machines and equipment and testing operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance. Conferring with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining problems. 4. Responsible for supporting the Schafer Business Process by: Maintaining and continuously improving productivity of assigned machines. Measuring, marking, and scribing dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining. If applicable. Continuously looking at tool life and new tooling to cut costs on tools. Reducing downtime of machines setups Maintaining the 5S program in assigned area. 5. Contributes to the overall effectiveness of the company by: Channeling problems and/or complaints to appropriate person for resolution. Supporting all Schafer policies and procedures.
