Job Summary:
We're seeking a skilled Machinist to perform complex, specialized work in the construction, repair, maintenance, and calibration of machine shop tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and instruments. In this hands-on role, you will operate both conventional and CNC equipment to produce precision parts, perform machine setups, and ensure all components meet tight tolerances. Job Duties:
Machining & Fabrication
Operate conventional machine shop equipment (lathes, mills, grinders, vertical/horizontal saws) to produce and detail parts ranging from simple to highly complex within prescribed tolerances.
Operate CNC vertical mills and lathes with Fanuc controllers.
Perform precise machine setups, adjusting speeds, feeds, and depth of cut per blueprint, drawing, or engineering specifications.
Inspect machined parts for conformance using precision measuring tools.
Operate numerical control machines as required.
Tooling Design & Support (as applicable)
Design and construct tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures for manufacturing needs.
Interpret tooling and fixture requests, create sketches, and fabricate solutions using various machines.
Provide technical guidance and support to tool designers in developing new tooling solutions.
Technical Expertise & Process Improvement
Demonstrate advanced technical skills and mentor/train other employees as needed.
Contribute to process improvements, applying new technologies when relevant.
Maintain broad knowledge of manufacturing functions and ensure best practices in production areas.
Qualifications:
High School diploma, military technical training, or equivalent vocational education.
3-5 years of relevant experience in machining, toolmaking, or related manufacturing work.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and ability to train others.
Skilled in reading and interpreting complicated technical drawings and blueprints.
Proficiency in mathematics, handbook formulas, and use of precision measuring instruments.
Ability to interpret complex technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and solve multi-variable problems.
Decision-Making & Leadership:

As a Gantry Mill Machinist at Husqvarna Construction in Columbia, SC, you will work in the Tool Room within the manufacturing area. You'll use your knowledge of metal properties and machining techniques-such as milling, drilling, reaming, and boring-to plan and perform operations that produce parts meeting exact blueprint and routing specifications.
SHIFT: 2nd shift, 2:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m., Monday - Friday
The primary machining operation will be modification of steel blade cores, and the primary machine tool will be the Haas Gantry Milling machine. You will set up the machine, choose cutting tools, and write or modify basic CNC programs. During and after the machining operations, you will use precision measuring tools to perform quality control checks and ensure compliance to blueprints or routing requirements. When defects are detected, you will make corrections as needed. Other tasks will include cleaning and storage of tooling, cleaning of machines, and cleaning of the work area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Set-up of Haas Gantry Milling machine and fixtures
* Writing and editing basic CNC programs
* Machining steel blade cores per blueprint requirements
* Quality control of machined products
* Correction of defective machining conditions
* Basic maintenance and cleaning of the Haas Gantry Milling machine and fixtures
* Basic maintenance and cleaning of the department floors and walls

* Two (2) years minimum machine shop training and one (1) year machine shop experience required. CNC Operator/ Programming Certificate preferred.
* Basic set-up and operation of CNC controlled metal removal equipment. Must understand basic M Code and G code programming. Experience with other metal removal machines and grinders will be accepted but the candidate must demonstrate set-up and operation knowledge. One (1) year minimum experience required.
* Must be able to correctly interpret engineering mechanical drawings. Must understand machining properties of metals
* Must understand the metal removal concepts of milling, drilling, reaming, and boring.
* Must understand selection of machine speeds and feeds for each machining operation
* Must understand the metric system of measurement.
* Correct usage of quality control measuring equipment such as micrometers, dial indicators, and calipers.
* Basic shop math to include Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Decimals, Geometry and Trigonometry
* Lifting of up to 60 lbs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Setup and operate complex CNC machinery, including multi-axis machines.
* Program and edit machine controls to optimize performance.
* Identify and resolve production bottlenecks and quality issues.
* Train and mentor junior machinists.
* Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to 5S standards.
* Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
* Required: High School Diploma or GED.
* Experience: 2-3 years of CNC machining experience, including simple setup and operation
* Expertise in blueprint reading and advanced GD&T application.
* Proficiency in interpreting blueprints, including basic GD&T concepts
* Knowledge of G-code programming adjustments and tooling
* Skilled in precision measurements and quality inspections
* Ability to receive feedback and respond effectively to instructions
* Effective communication with colleagues, supervisors, and engineers to discuss production issues
* Ability to provide informal training to less experienced machinists
Preferred Qualifications:
* Preferred: Technical certification in machining or manufacturing
* Preferred Experience: Experience in both CNC milling and turning environments
* Sub-spindle machining experience or Swiss machining experience is a plus
