Position Summary
The ProtoTRAK Machinist is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating ProtoTRAK CNC/manual milling machines and lathes to manufacture custom plastic components. This role requires strong knowledge of machining processes for various plastic materials and a commitment to precision, quality, and safety in every production run.
What You Will Do
Program and operate ProtoTRAK milling machines and lathes to produce plastic components per technical drawings and job specifications.
Select appropriate tooling and machine settings based on plastic material properties and job requirements.
Perform first-piece inspections and monitor production to ensure compliance with specifications, tolerances, and quality standards.
Adjust feeds, speeds, and tooling to achieve optimal surface finish and dimensional accuracy for materials such as acrylic, PVC, and polycarbonate.
Conduct routine preventive maintenance including cleaning and lubrication to ensure optimal machine performance.
Maintain accurate documentation of production runs, tooling changes, and machine maintenance.
Collaborate with production and engineering teams to troubleshoot issues and drive continuous improvement.
Follow all safety procedures to prevent personal injury and equipment or material damage.

Ensure all remnant material is properly handled and traceability is maintained.
Work in a safe and cautious manner, respecting moving equipment; identifying and mitigating all potential hazards.
Identify and bring to the attention of the PT Supervisor all issues which relate to the function, safety and operation of machinery and identify potential problems.
Maintain shop to cleanliness standard on a daily basis prior to leaving for the day.
Requirements
Minimum 2 years' proven experience in the field of manual machining.
General knowledge of machinery operation and the ability to use hand-held gaging instruments.
Some CNC experience would be beneficial but is not required.
Sample preparation and machining is critical to the success of the mechanical testing department. The machinist must take pride in his/ her work and ensure that the work is performed accurately, by taking the time do it correctly in a reasonable period of time.
