The majority of Mechanical Engineering co-ops and interns enter into the following positions:
Area Refining Engineer/Project Engineers develop and use project management skills to create project scopes, estimates, and schedules. Once a project is developed and approved, you, as the project manager, will oversee the design effort and assist in the construction process. MPC will provide training and educational opportunities to help you develop your knowledge of other engineering disciplines. We are committed to developing engineers into professional project managers who can successfully manage projects of all sizes.
Reliability Engineers support the refinery's Maintenance Department through design and development of equipment related improvements. Such improvements include root cause failure analysis, optimization of maintenance programs in rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, etc.), and troubleshooting fixed equipment (refinery pressure vessels, heat exchangers, piping systems, etc.). Reliability Engineers will also be continuously challenged to find new technology in design, materials and repair methods to achieve refinery goals of longer running times at lower costs.
Qualifications:
* Candidates must be majoring in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering
* Strong academic performance

* Experience in system engineering and design and operation of conveyors, motor controls, fans, valves, PLC controllers.
* Has worked within a manufacturing environment and practices strong safety and Lean methodologies.
* Able to read, understand and modify drawings and schematics including Assembly, P&ID, and Parts.
* Must have proficiency in a CAD platform; strong familiarity with AutoDesk Inventor 2020 preferred.
* Experience in supervision of technical teams and projects.
* Must be able to travel as needed for requirements gathering, site surveys, customer visits, installs and startups.
* Familiarity with applications in cryogenic and other relevant industrial processing for the food industry

Mechanical Design Engineer - Food Freezing Systems
Mechanical engineering internship job in Wooster, OH
We are seeking a Design Engineer who wants to grow with a leading global company and demonstrate their innovation, communication, and work with a great team. This candidate will drive designs, coordination, and implementation of projects in accordance with Linde policies. A core focus will be to learn and understand the food freezing products and drive new developments through commercialization of cryogenic technologies in the food industry. Additional opportunity in gas technologies for pharmaceuticals and wastewater may also be applied.
This position utilizes strong engineering practices including CAD standards, drawing standards, Bill of Material creation, MRP, Tolerance Analysis, and Management of Change. Candidate will leverage their mechanical engineering skill set and lead designers in developments, design reviews, risk identification (PHA / FMEA) and verifications. Demonstrate strong communication skills and presence in the business and with customers visiting.
Primary Responsibilities:
Participates in defining engineering approaches and in planning, prioritizing and scheduling work for a design team
Effective communicator across the business and experience with design for manufacturing (DFM)
Demonstrates creativity and ingenuity in applying engineering principles and practices
Utilize strong Problem-Solving skills, Creativity, DMAIC / 8D.
Performs engineering calculations for accurate sizing of equipment regarding food capacity, heat transfer, exhaust volumes, flow rates, and torque. Experience with valves, conveyor mechanisms, fans, motors, and other electro-mechanical components.
Ensures successful completion of assigned project phases within the budgeted time and cost constraints.
Reviews and checks drawings and data sheets to ensure compliance with design criteria and standards.
Influences team members and promotes ideas to improve design and implantation practices. Documents phase specific design reviews.
Analyze cost and benefits of various solutions, followed by appropriate recommendations.
May lead field teams through installations, issue identification, analysis and repairs related to primary skill area.
Interfaces with internal and external customers/suppliers
May provide technical and engineering support to Linde regions and other business professionals.
Directs preparation of appropriate documentation for assigned project phases and prepares required reports and summaries to communicate project progress or results.
Travel to customer sites and equipment fabricators as required.
Work with manufacturing to facilitate completion of design and fabrication.
Qualifications:
BS Degree in engineering (mechanical preferred)
A minimum of five (5) years overall experience in applications and / or design engineering (preferably in food applications)
Detailed part design experience for sheet metal and machining. Sheet metal fabrication experience a plus.
Experience in system engineering and design and operation of conveyors, motor controls, fans, valves, PLC controllers.
Has worked within a manufacturing environment and practices strong safety and Lean methodologies.
Able to read, understand and modify drawings and schematics including Assembly, P&ID, and Parts.
Must have proficiency in a CAD platform; strong familiarity with AutoDesk Inventor 2020 preferred.
Experience in supervision of technical teams and projects.
Must be able to travel as needed for requirements gathering, site surveys, customer visits, installs and startups.
Familiarity with applications in cryogenic and other relevant industrial processing for the food industry
Project management experience and can create project schedules, deliverables, and milestones.
Background in new equipment and applications commercialization strongly preferred.
Must be able to communicate ideas to others across different levels inside and outside the organization.
Knowledge of how businesses operate; keenly aware of how strategies and decisions affect success of projects.
Familiarity of USDA, NSF a plus, but not required.
AutoCad Electrical a plus
Familiarity with JDE, Oracle or other ERP software
Experience with PLC programming and ladder logic, Allen Bradley RS Logix and Siemens a plus
