Overview The Intern is a student with an interest in mechanical installations for hospitals, hotels and institutional facilities, who works during the internship to further education and experience. Responsibilities Creates a master checklist of expectations and goals to use as a guide throughout the internship and then used as an evaluation at completion. Assists the departments and team with all aspects of the projects and estimating or business operations. Participates in special tasks/projects and work with team and various resources to complete. Assists by collecting information, creating and updating files, documents, spreadsheets, databases, reports and schedules. Prepares reports and presentations as needed. Attends departmental and jobsite meetings. Performs tasks under the supervision of an Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, or departmental staff. Participates in any learning experiences offered such as orientations, lunch & learns, outings, jobsite tours, safety inspections, etc. Studies meeting notes, policies and procedures to learn the company way. POSITION SUMMARY The Associate Engineer contributes technical knowledge in the evaluation, selection, and application of standard engineering techniques for the purpose of designing/drafting and/or modifying natural gas transmission pipelines and distribution systems. This position is responsible for assisting with all preliminary and technical engineering design work, project management, project permitting, and safe implementation of natural gas systems and projects within the Summit Utilities family of companies. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Associate Engineer will be responsible for assisting engineering staff in the following areas: Performs day-to-day project duties producing construction document deliverables for natural gas system projects. Utilizes Autodesk/Civil 3D and/or other software platforms to create and edit applicable natural gas system construction drawings, civil engineering site plans, detail drawings, and mapping. Gas Modeling - assists with modeling of natural gas systems using company Gas Modeling Software (in house training provided). Reviews industry and company design standards, regulations and material specifications and apply knowledge to system designs, calculations, and details; collects and researches industry and vendor data and analyzes information to pioneer feasible solutions; reviews design calculations and drawings with peers and modifies designs when necessary. Performs occasional field work to perform construction review for compliance with company standards. Assists with preparation and revision of construction specifications, contract documents, easement documents, and various permitting applications. Permitting - Works closely with engineering staff and local managers to clearly and accurately identify and fulfill necessary permit requirements for gas systems projects (State DOT, USFS, COE, Railroad, City/County ROW, storm water, etc.). This may require periodic on-site monitoring and reporting, as well as coordination and planning with outside agencies and consultants as needed. Project Management - Assists with management of project budgets and scheduling and creates Construction Execution Plans for scopes of work. Rights - Of - Way/Easements - Works at the request of engineering management and local managers to accurately research property ownership information and develop acquisitions of any private rights-of-way necessary for construction work. Assists with preparation and drafting of easement documents. Works to help track easement acquisition progress and payments. Record Keeping - Responsible for accurate record keeping related to installation and monitoring of gas systems, including but not limited to pipeline inspections and excavations, as built drawings, and easements. This involves coordination with the Company's Asset Data department and may require periodic data entry. Performs occasional field work to evaluate site conditions, including the use and training of GPS equipment. Coordination with multiple Company departments (Operations, Construction, Sales, Legal, GIS Regulatory, and Accounts Payable). Other duties as assigned by Manager of Engineering. EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) from ABET accredited University in engineering. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES Demonstrated technical and analytical capability. Proficient computer skills working with Microsoft Office, Autodesk/Civil-3D, and various modeling/simulation programs. This includes the ability to receive and immediately implement training on new software. Must work well with others as the position requires teamwork, collaboration, and kindness within engineering offices with local district offices. Overview The IS Mechanical Designer I will design mechanical systems, components, or assemblies using engineering principles. Responsibilities Works closely with project managers, engineers and contractors to create unique high-level concepts and designs for all assigned projects. Works closely with the team to ensure the successful execution of goals of all assigned projects. Conducts field surveys to identify existing equipment types and system capabilities. Produces design documents including drawings, system flow diagrams and architecture, wiring diagrams, construction details, and equipment scheduling. Delivers concepts and designs according to strict project deadlines. Contributes to all areas of the creative process and department. Performs work under direct supervision. Handles basic issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Assist with the development of technical reports or related documents. Other duties as assigned or required. Qualifications Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications Associate degree in HVAC Technology, Building Systems Engineering, Construction Management, or related field 1-2 years' experience with building construction, especially mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or automatic temperature controls. Proficiency in AutoCAD and REVIT Strong technical skills Effective oral and written communications skills Vision and Creativity Ability to meet deadlines Planning skills Possesses beginning to working knowledge of the subject matter. Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment. Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary. Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree Building Automation System design and sequence writing experience - Preferred systems include Siemens, JCI, Honeywell, Trane, Struxureware, and Tridium HVAC Design and Commissioning experience - Preferred systems include Chilled Water, Heating Water, Condenser Water, and Steam Higher Education and Healthcare design experience Travel Requirements 10-25% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location. The instructions are technical in nature but are to be used by non-technical consumers such as a VIP passenger or cabin crew. This candidate will create multi-media instructions for a new aircraft system. The candidate will apply their experience gained in creating content to organize existing content into re-usable modules. Experience gained: technical writing with layout optimization and aesthetics, multi-media production, project management, data continuity, various authoring software tools. PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS): Understand the technical design and human interface for various components of the aircraft cabin. Create technical use instructions in non-technical language so that a VIP or cabin crew member may be able to fully utilize aircraft passenger systems and installations. Create animations and/or videos to augment instructional text. Identify Cabin Guide content components that may be linked to design data based on engineering part numbers. Create reusable media templates for Cabin Guide content creation. MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Technical aptitude. Strong communication skills. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator Familiar with Adobe FrameMaker Must be currently enroll in an accredited college or university and must reside in the United States.
