Position Summary:
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at DLR Group you will be responsible for assisting in the design process of mechanical systems from schematics through construction administration on a wide range of building types. The successful candidate will:
Work with a licensed engineer designing mechanical systems for new construction and/or building renovation projects
Attend design team meetings with a mechanical engineer and observe the coordination that occurs among the team members of a multi-disciplinary design team
Assist a mechanical engineer with the design and development of construction documents primarily using Revit
Visit an active construction site (contingent on the status of local construction projects)
Develop HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection designs from concept through completion
Required Qualifications:
Enrollment in an ABET-accredited Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering program
Must be eligible to work in the United States without need for work visa or residency sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
Interest in architectural building design
Experience or interest with BIM (e.g. Autodesk Revit MEP) workflow
At least a third-year student in an accredited engineering program

**Types of paid internship offered:**

**Our Interns will:**
+ Have a hands - on career enhancing experience on heavy civil construction projects

As an employee-owner hired for an internship, you will be given the title of " **Project Intern** " and your duties could consist of:
+ Processing submittals by reviewing, stamping, filing and distributing submittals
+ Sending RFI's to architects and engineers
+ Keeping concrete, rebar, RFI, and plan logs up to date
+ Resolving problems generated from the plans and specifications
+ Establishing control points and lines using field instruments (level, theodolite, total station)
+ Locating embeds in the slab and verifying embed locations per approved shops
+ Assist in locating openings in the structure and assist in establishing vertical control for the structure
+ Locating other miscellaneous items in the field (curbs, inlets, etc.)
+ Documentation- updating and distributing construction drawings, specification, shop drawings and samples
+ Aiding with Quality control inspections utilizing BIM 360 field onsite
+ Verifying pre-pour check list and checking proper formwork framing/shoring installation per approved shops
+ Participating in and aiding with weekly safety meetings as requested, including writing meeting minutes
+ Leading project orientation and maintenance of logs
+ Assisting with maintaining project look ahead schedules
+ Assisting with trade contractor coordination and scheduling
+ Verifying proper construction techniques per plans and specs (raise concerns and follow through with trade until corrected)
+ Maintaining city inspection records and walking with Superintendent during inspections
+ Other miscellaneous duties as defined by the Project Manager or Superintendent
Project Interns can expect a preliminary meeting with their supervisor to discuss the goals, expectations, and desired outcomes of the internship. Employee-owners participating in an internship will be reviewed upon the completion of their internship. This review should be used as a tool to communicate the successes and learning outcomes of the internship. The supervisor will also complete any necessary paperwork that must be provided to the Project Intern's school or university.
Individuals hired as interns will be classified as **Temporary employee-owners** as defined in Policy A-5. Temporary employee-owners are not eligible for vacation pay, holiday pay or any of the other benefits listed in Policy A-5.
Temporary employee-owners are expected to adhere to the same policies and procedures as regular, full-time employee-owners. These policies and procedures can be found on the AustinNet under _People Services, Austin Commercial._
Employee-owners that are performing an internship are expected to work a regularly-scheduled workweek of 40 hours or more (overtime will be paid for any hours in excess of 40 at a rate one and one-half times the employee-owner's regular rate).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with engineering calculations using computer-based technical tools;
Technical writing of reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals;
Data input and analysis, including preparing maps, tables, and figures;

We are looking for motivated thermal engineers to develop cutting-edge products for our military, governmental, and commercial customers. Systems we design are specifically tuned for the customers' needs and ranges from single-phase pumped loops, vapor compression and other lifting cycles, and radiation thermal management. Our current designs extend the range of hypersonic vehicles, enable power dense laser weapons on small platforms, and lower size, weight, and power for aerospace systems. Components we routinely develop include coldplates for electronics, heat exchangers, thermal energy storage devices, and mechanical components for thermal systems. Our group of thermal engineers drive products from conception to production including product ideation, research, laboratory/prototype builds, experimental testing, and design for manufacture. Individual engineers lead their own projects and research. Your creativity and interest determine the next technology you investigate. We currently use advanced techniques like microchannel cooling, three-dimensional cooling passages through additive manufacturing, membrane enhanced cooling, oscillating heat pipes. This position includes proposal writing for your next idea, analytical calculations, computational simulations (CFD and FEA), laboratory build and testing, and direct customer interfacing.
